I have seen a track bike for sale. The owner says it has a v5 and can be used in the daytime only. I was wondering if bike that have been used on the track is suitable for use on the road. Or will the engine be naked etc. what do you think?
usually means that there are no indicators, headlights and various bits will be lockwired. Also exhaust may well be race only, so not road legal (nothing a baffle cannot sort.). Depends what bike it is. Probably has fibre glass fairings, so may well look a tad rough, but then some race bikes look mint… Post pictures links so people can advise. Also, what bike is it???
Post the link to the bike, or PM it to me. I just bought a track GSXR 750 with V5 and converted for full road use by sticking on some indicators and lights, passed MOT and have been using it to commute on while my commuting bike is in the workshop. So you can either do what I did and convert the track fairing to road legal, or you can purchase a full set of standard fairings and swap them over at the track (bit of a hassle!). I have it insured (although all the mods are a long phone call to list, and put the premium up a little) and taxed so all good
Only thing is the tyres, they get ragged on a trackday and the police don’t like to see them like that, and I am not overly confident in the wet with them, but OK by me.
The ‘daylight’ MOT (which is just an ordinary MOT stamped ‘for daylight use only’ means that you only need the reflector on the back, so long as nothing is connected or attached to the bike. You can ride legally with this configuration (so long as insurance have been notified) between dawn and dusk, get caught after this time and expect trouble.
Also ask the seller if the originial wiring loom is fully intact, mine was and it save a LOT of hassle, some trackbikes either have race wiring or are a fully loss system, OK if you just want daytime MOT, but for full use, going to need a full wiring loom…
Thanks guys for the reply…as you can see I don’t know much. will ask about the wiring loom.
Elad is it possible to see a pic of your bike?
Nice! I like the lights…did you make modifications to the fairing or did it come with the holes already?
hehe Cheers mate, for the holes I had some help from Photographic hero for the holes, him and his dremel worked their magic Stig VR made up the aluminium bracket required to hold the headlights, a real LB team effort :)You can buy those from powerbronze I think with headlights and holes already made, but they are nearly 300 quid!!! those lights all-in cost around 100
just a quickie the daylight mot all that is needed isa rear reflector (dunno why as your not using it in the dark!!) and a horn
