Hello – would be grateful for thoughts from some of the experienced bike sages here. I’ve just bought a used 2005 CBR 1000rr from a dealer – Dobles Honda – and only after taking delivery have found that there’s no tool kit supplied. All other documentation is there / pristine, so seems odd. Checked with them and they say that used bikes are often without the ‘kit. Is this correct, or a fob off? Otherwise they’ve been fantastic with the sale, so don’t want to sour it over this, but would be grateful for experience on the forum.
I have. They said that if not one with the bike then there’s not one with the bike…. Sales chap Peter who’s been v helpful is looking to see if can pull one together for me, but wondered if I should push it for a collection of the standard tools that come with the ‘blade, as specified in the handbook. Sounds like I should wait to hear what they come back with and then if I draw a blank maybe push it?
If it’s a used bike mate sounds like the previous owner either forgot to put the tools back under the seat before he got rid of it or kept them for himself on purpose. It’s always nice to find the tool kit in place when you get a used bike - but I don’t always assume it’s going to be there and it’s not something I generally worry about - I’d never use any of the stuff supplied in the bike tool kit anyway as it’s usually nowhere near as good as the stuff I have in my tool box.
Peter at Dobles is a really nice guy and will do everything he can to help you out (I bought an Ace of hime earlier this year) - but there is no point in busting a nut over something as relatively trivial as this IMO. ;)
Agree - he’s been really helpful so will see what he comes back with. I never actually used the 'kit on my VFR that I PX’ed for the Blade, so it’s more of a comfort thing I think.
Make your own, better quality and more versatile. Leatherman or simular. A load of cable ties, a couple of paper clips. A few bits of wire and a small roll of gaffertape. Spare fuses, a mini maglite, allen keys and so on.
I don’t think any dealer has any requirement to provide a used bike with a tool kit. if you get one, regard it as a bonus:D
Chances are the previous owner forgot to put the tool kit back under the seat. Can’t imagine they would really have much of a use for it as they are usually pretty cr@p quality.
You should have the last owners name and address on the log book. Might be worth calling them or dropping them a line.
For some reason, having the original tools kit seems to add Brownie point when selling or trading a used bike, so getting someting that duplicates the original is probably worth doing, (ebay/breakers?) but only for show.
As for using it, forget it.
The last original tool kit I had that was worthwhile and could be used was with the BMW I bought in '78 and I had to add a few bits to that to make it a reasonably decent tool roll. (£40 value in '78, = about £150 now. Should have been good.)
