TBH, not many will actually be crushed - if they are seized by the Met, they’ll go to one of the Met pounds and only if they are below a certain value will they be crushed.
Valuable motors go to auction.
I’m all for it - if you’re not insured, then you deserve everything you get unless you can prove it’s the fault of the insurance company
Serves them right, i always make sure my bike and car are fully insured so why can’t they. If they can’t a ford to insure their expensive car buy a cheaper one.
I’m glad that is the case, as it would be a ridiculous waste of money to crush a perfectly servicable vehicle when the proceeds of the sale could go to much better use! Any idea what the threshold is?
I’m soooo proud of GM…he actually listens to me when I talk about work…LOL!!
DK, the threshold used to be £1000. Basically we had to estimate that the vehicle would gain more than £1000 in auction, anything less would go to the breakers. This was a bad thing for bikes though as some were in top condition but would never get more than a grand. However, since the end of last year, it was changed to £300. The only problem is, most vehicles aren’t roadworthy, so we still tend to scrap a lot of them. Thankfully though, I get to save a lot more bikes from the crushers!
If anyone is unaware on how to check if their vehicle is on the Insurance Database then look here:
It’ll tell you whether your vehicle is on the database or not as its linked to the same database that the Police use for PNC. If an insurance company tells you that you are covered straight away, you’ll only be covered according to their internal systems. It takes minutes to update the MID (Insurance Database) but insurance companies can take up to 14 days to add you on the system.
