Tyres

We all know there are tyres and then there are tyres.

When I first got my baby she had a macadam front tyre and that had to go.

I would want to put on a new pair of Bridgestone BT014’s but some one out there may know of a better match for my bike. I want stickier softer tyres so I would consided equivalent or better from another manufacturer.

Also does any one know of anywhere reasonably close to watford where I could get them and get them fitted with out being fleeced.

I should point out that I have been to HGB just off the A40 and won’t use them again following thier failiure to balance my tyres and the fitting of a poor quality chain to my bike.

How would you describe your riding? i.e A lot of motorway miles, commuting, fun riding (a roads) etc…?

I am working my way up to grinding down the foot pegs and scuffing my knees.

I use the bike to go to and from work 7 miles each way thorugh lots of lovely bendy a roads with the occaional roundabout for good measure.

Once a month I do a hundred mile motorway jaunt to and from Northampton.

Finally i use every opportunity I can to get and ride, fun riding a roads mainly, with a bit of porsche baiting thrown in.

Pirelli Diablos, a good all round tyre. I fitted them to my bike and am loving them. I got a great deal on them £159 delivered. I had to take them to a shop to get them fitted.

FWR have great deals on them but having read the horror stories in the name and shame section i wouldnt recommend you take them there. If you want the number for where i got my tyres, let me know.

I have read all about FWR it seems that a lot of Bike tyre outfits are a bit like that.

I got BT-014s on my SV and dont find them v. confidence inspiring during this kind of weather, however they were ok during warmer weather. Think I’ll also go Pirelli next time

I’m not hugely fussy about tyres (I know I should be tho…) but Colin Collins in Watford seemed perfectly competant at sorting my back wheel punctures recently. Note the plural

However, next time I need a full set replaced, I’ll be back over to East London to MotorcycletyresUK (see Name and Shame) since they seem top guys, bikers, and let you stand in the workshop and watch what they do.

worth the trip in my opinion.

I had a good run on some Michelin Pilot Sports (I have an SV1K), 207RR’s were great but not the sort that you would want to be doing long M road runs and the last pair is the 014’s that are hard work in the rain but lasted a long time (4 months).

Good luck

At the moment I’m running a pair of BT020’s for the winter and as I have some touring to do as well, they’ve been quite good so far.

But when the weather starts to warm up a little… maybe around April, I’m thinking of changing to a pair of diablo corsar’s for the summer.

What are those Contisports like Andrew?

i am also running the bridgestone bt0 20’s…i think the’re great…even in this weather…got front and rear with all the trimmings in catford for £201.00. dont know if thats good or not as new to this game, but im happy…watched them being fitted too

They seem ok but with the slippy roads (apparently due to a synthetic type road salt being used this year) it’s hard to tell.

But I’ll sacrifice a bit of feel (what you’ve never had you never miss…) for 9k miles per set thanks.

A hot trackday would be a different matter, but they’re a long way off, and I’ll have a set of Supercorsas on my spare wheels

Andrew’s advise re Motorcycletyresuk.com is spot on. Will be popping over there shortly and will report further.
