im in Bromley (kent), looking for a ride in / out service.
Anyone recommend somewhere good?
Also what you lot riding on now tyre wise? I changed job so the bike has not been on the track this year…
am hoping to get a Brands in before year out so want something sticky…
I tried a Cooking GS, I thought it was sh1t! Went back to the BT090 that I loved and found that sliding around too! The 090 is a better tyre! I’ll put the GS back on when its snowing!
WTF’s a cooking GS?
Loadsa folk rate the GS precuts - tried one once on a Rowrah track day (on 5" rim) and it was fine until you pushed it and it would let go completely, had me off twice, fckin thing. Went back last weekend with Distanzia on 4.25" rim and it was so much better, no moments at all - until some fcker had me off and that was the end of that!
Like I said, it gripped really well but when I gave it a bit of extra gas, instead of breaking away progressively, like the Distanzia would, it just shot out from under me. Twice, and almost a third time too when I just managed to save it. Pressure was 25psi which is at the low end of the recommended range (24 to 28) so can’t think it could have been that. Just don’t have the necessary skill I guess. Hey, you’re skilled (or so they tell me) - wanna buy it off me? :hehe:
Yep. Rowrah’s a kart circuit. I’ve done 4 weekends there, 3 on Distanzia, 1 on GS precut slick (PXR on front at all times, as usual ). More than likely the GS letting go was coincidental with other stuff and the Distanzia would have let go too. Anyway I’m done with trackdays now so the GS will remain surplus to requirement.
My favourite setup is front proXtreme and rear distanzia, but I must say that the proXtreme didn’t do too good at Lydden Hill. It’s basicaly fooked (has no more than 200 miles in total).
Then again, the Road Pilot 2 that I currently have on the rear is in a pretty bad state too.
It wasn’t even that hot a day.
My front PXR has lasted ages. the rear lasts 5 minutes in the dry but awsome in the wet. I have 2 sets of wheels so its easy for me to change depending on the weather
That really surprises me. A couple of years ago I did a day at Mallory when it was really hot, for those who don’t know it a smallish track like Lydden Hill but perhaps a tad faster - it was 32º and I was really worried about how the PXR front would manage but it was absolutely fine - the Distanzia got royally f*cked tho! (BTW I got over 5,000 miles out of that PXR in the end, including 5 track days, only replaced it a month or so ago).
(Race wet fronts make good road tyres apparently. I was given a part worn Dunlop race wet the other day, I’ll give that a go next.)
