Diamond security warmers are the way forward made, they do a full service on them if anything goes wrong(which they never did in the 4 years i had a set). hww are more expensive but again do a full service.
Got Diamonds and nothing bad to report either… just don’t leave them over the back of a chair on a jacket, turned on when you go out for a session… They catch fire!!!
yeash, yeah, will try and avoid that mate
looks like the HWW have elasticated sides which means less faff with the drawstrings? not sure that’s worth the extra ton for them tho.
used the diamonds courtesy of jonesy last time round at a wet brands and made a big diff to tyre grip from the off and tyre wear compared to going out on cold road tyres
Any way to power tyre warmers off the bike whilst it runs on idle?
Can you get any that use a 12v or are they all strictly for running off a generator?
Can you get a generator small enough to fit in a backpack?
You can tell that I don’t have a van
you use the mains points in the pits mate. powerng them isn’t an issue,
getting the paddock stands there will be your prob (you can’t put the warmers on the tyres standing on the floor as they’ll overheat)
You need 240V to run them mate…
Most of our local tracks have 240 hook ups i.e Brands, Donny, Sneet etc
The only places i can think of that dont are Pembrey, Lydden, Cadwell that dont, then you will need a genny to power them.
Lovely!
Can a couple of you burly fellas hold the bike up until the tyres are warm though cos I can’t fit paddock stands in my back pack
And just to point out you dont put tyre warmers on wets, the reasom is wets work by displacing water and if you heat wet the gaps in the blocks on the tyre surface move around you dont want them to move around as they wont displace water as well as stiff blocks.
not to mention turning them into chewing gum!
Hope the weather is better than this weekend…Frost
Hmmmm… well thats weird… a friend of mine works for Pere Riba and they put tyre warmers on his wets before he goes out to race!
admittedly only for 20 minutes beforehand though…
you can go round in circles on this topic till the cows come home though… i think its personal choice. some do some dont!
Personally at the last trackday i did in the wet i didnt put tyre warmers on and certainly didnt have any lack of grip
you had warm up laps with each session tho buddy
HWW warmers inbound…sweeeeeet
Fast group didnt have warm up laps after the 1st session…
I always use tyre warmers on wets, so does everyone else in the race paddock. Yes you don’t want them to over heat but you still want enough heat in them. That’s why you need to go out full bore on them straight away, to keep the heat in. The increase in tyre pressure you run in a wet tyre keeps the tread open, to little pressure and yes they will close up and grip will be lost.
not normally agreed, but the organisers thought it was slippy and they made all the groups do the 3 for the first session, then 1 for fast and inters, and 2 for the novices for most of the day?
or did they drop the fast group ones quicker? the novices one went down to 1 warm up lap after lunch from what i remember.
Fast only did 3 sighting laps first session and that was it… (could actually have only been 2 laps)
No sighting laps after that!
I wish you guys would choose different Avatar pics (Mj Jonesy and Johnny Bravo). It looks like one guy arguing with himself
better than avatars looking like we’re playing with ourselves tho
HWW warmers arrived! quite chuffed to have my own gear finally. all the gear…finish the well known phrase
my girlfriend is obviously chuffed about getting up stupidly early to transport the gear to the track in her car tho!
gonna need all the help i can get as booked into the inters/fast at brands on sunday
Muaghahahahahah…
