Trying to source bike parking in SW7 (Gloucester Road Station)

Dear All,

I start a new job on Monday and it’s the first job I’ve had based in an office in London. I live in Aylesbury and will catch the (slow/boring) train and tube for the first week until I’m settled in. I don’t know how to find the bike parks/bays dotted around. I will be working for a company opposite Gloucester Road tube station SW7 and would love to be able to find a suitably placed bike park.

I have searched here but found little - and have taken note of the hassle with some inconsiderate peepz and their lack of parking etiquette!!!

Also I have my tax disc in the trunk of the bike as I;ve had mine stolen in the past. How do I stand legally without displaying it when parked on the road (these days a quick check = tax paid therefore no need to display - I am right?).

The need to commute, is based on the cost of a train/tube ticket per annum and the sodding time taken to get there and back!!! I think all considered, including the heightened security status these days - I’m probably better off on my own bike than public transport anyhow.

Can anyone help ??

Stu

Hey Stu, congrats on the new job. Here’s a map of all the bike-bays in Central London:

I personally wouldn’t use them though as your bike will get damaged, possibly nicked, rained and crapped on and all other kinds of stuff you really wouldn’t want to happen to your bike. A better alternative is to find an NCP car park in the area and see if you can park for free. I’ve done this before, and even if you have to pay (I’ve never paid in the evenings), it’ll be a fair rate (nothing like the charge for cars), and you’ll have piece of mind that it’s dry, secure and guarded. I use them all the time I want to go into London on my pride-and-joy.

I use the bike parks in central London, and have never had any real problems.

As for the tax disc, I regularly colour photocopy mine and stick the copy on the bike, with the original in my wallet.

Never been pulled on it yet. It wasn’t even mentioned by the Met police after my accident last year when the examined the bike.

NCP car park is probably your best bet. They only charge £3 per day for a bike and you don’t have the worry of your bike having some ****e scooter being wedged up against your bike in a parking bay.

Cheaper than a season ticket, for sure.

MANY THANX!!!

I do appreciate your time taken and effort in gaining that information for me. If I’d been more resourceful, I would have found them!

I would probably buy a crappy bike for the commute and so not THAT worried about theft/damage - more about the inconvenience of it all.

Bye for now.
