triumph daytona 955i, 1999-2000.

ladies an gennul’men, i have a cam chain issue on a 1999 955i Daytona, i refuse to pay the stupid amounts of cash for a new cam chain, i can get hold of a 2000 Daytona chain for peanuts. now, heres the techy bit, after trawling, i cant find anything to suggest that they are inter changeable, nor anything to the contrary. can someone please help me out,

are the cam chains interchangeable.

who can fit one, and what will it entail.

why did i buy a triumph.

an answer to any of the three listed questions will be gratefully received. MERCY BUCKET…

Go here http://www.worldoftriumph.com/section.php/4276/1/parts_locator?gclid=COOPh9KZo7ACFWchtAodH28DYA and compare part numbers. I think you will find they are identical.

Fitting one is a little involved…
Seat off, tank off, airbox off, coils out, side fairings off, radiator dropped, nasty allen head valve cover bolts off, wrestle with cam cover(you can take it out with dropping the block, but you need to Paul Daniels to do it in under an hour) equally nasty cam bolts off, cam chain cover off, cam tensioner out, cam chain guide off, new chain in, timing marks aligned top and bottom, turn over by hand several times until sure timing correct, reverse procedure.
At an absolute minimum it’s a four hour job, assuming decent tools and no seized bolts. Being a Triumph this is unlikely to happen, and could quite easily end up being 2 days of intensive sweating and swearing.
It’s not really a job for the amateur, the scope for disaster is huge.

I ask myself why I bought a Triumph on an almost hourly basis.

heh heh, cheers scorch!!

well at least i know im not the only one with a troublesome trumpet. any clues on the cam belt thing i posted, do you know if a 2000 model chain will fit a 1999 model…at risk of sounding like a complete bafoon. yeah, i kinda thought the scope for carnage would be vast, but the issue is cash flow, as always. and i refuse to pay someone £80 p/h to dick around with it. i have four days off, so i shall try to get i sorted provided the chain is interchangeable.

either way, huge thanks. might just drop it off at the omc and run away in a stealthy fashion while hearing the cries of woe from matt…hahahahaha.

these guys specialise in cam chains, i used them about 20 yrs ago when they were based in tottenham,

may be worth giving them a call…

martin,…many thanks, just spoke to tony and he’s given me the info i need pretty much. he is also going to pop round to have a listen to the bike to confirm if it is a cam chain issue. top bloke. cheers peeps.

GET HOLD OF FUUCKING ADZ LIKE I SAID TOO!!!

smiled.

It’s not just the tensioner thats had enough , it’s the actual chain itself ?

Triumph cam chains make an awful noise typically. Especially just before the ratchet on the tensioner takes up the slack…

eye eye smiled, fancy dropping me adz’s number so i can have him sort the timing and the leaky throttle body. new cam chain is in but still making a racket…hmm,…i repeat,…why did i buy a trumpet???
