I shall be making a move toward my DAS test when I have had a few more hours on my R125 and feel ready.
The trouble is i’m stuck between these two bikes. Money isn’t an issue so it’s down to looks, performance, sound and feel. I’ve never ridden either and was hoping some of you will have, and may be able to offer some comparison.
Personally I like the more exclusive feel, and more over English heritage of a triumph. But i’m also a big Honda fan as I need a reasonably reliable bike as I plan to commute on any mediocre to good weather days. I also think they are both great looking, but I think the triumph might just pip it for me.
Of course, feel free to suggest alternatives - but i’ve my mind set on a 600ish cc sports bike. Would apreciate any info you could provide
Have been riding a Triumph for a while now and no real reliability issues so don’t think that should stop getting it…however like the look of CBR more…and would defo go for the ABS version
Most of the 600cc group tests I’ve read in the press say that you should pick one you like the look of because there really isn’t much between them and you need to be a professional racer to really appreciate the differences performance wise.
I like the CBR600RR but that’s because I have one and I had a Honda before that which I liked so I thougth I’d carry on.
The 675 apparently has more usable power and better midrange. I think you adjust your riding to suit the engine after a while though. It does look great though and is arguably more interseting then a Japanese bike because it’s not a Japanese bike.
I think only you can make the decision though and in this scenario you can’t lose.
And I agree about ‘try before you buy’. Trouble is it’s unlikely i’ll have the luxury of finding a used bike, in red, mint, low miles etc etc in both so i can try them. I’m swaying for the triumph just to feel a little patriotic, and i like the looks.
After riding both a lot, i would go 675…
triple engine makes a lot of sense in almost all ways… unless going over 145+ is the main thing on your agenda… as the triple has more usable grunt throughout the range but runs out of top end earlier… but i dont see that as an issue unless you are buying it to do salt plain drag racing!!
675 with a good can on is one of the nicest noises in the world…
As you said - its got the “novelty” factor of being a great, class-defining British bike… i think thats great…
Def try to ride both… but i know which one i’d be waiting until last!
Also, this is only a rule of thumb, but you will not find a shortage of well looked after triumphs… lots of older bikers who have the money, time and alternative bikes tend to be a large demographic of the triumph brand followers and so their second hand bikes tend to be well looked after… (Not saying the honda wont be)…
Dealership support in my experience lies better with triumph… but that might be that over previous years thay have had to build up relationships with customers as they used to have to come back alot! haha!
But i wouldnt put the reliability of the 675 any lower than 600RR… both cracking bits of kit.
Both will get you from A-B in style, reasonable comfort, with a great deal of grin-inducing speed… both corner well, both are lethal track tools…
I personally think the triumphs just ticks a few more boxes for me… but as advised try them out…
The triple engine has a lot of character… a lot. You will prob love it, but you may not… so just try it out - it will soon be apparent either way…
Well, sadly insurance didn’t like the idea of either! So looks like I will have to wait a year or so, which i’m not too concerned about given i’ll be tedious on either to start with. Maybe even go to an 848
Oh, and I bought a Cbr600 F in anticipation for test, which should be in a couple of weeks. Minter!
