Tried starting the bike . .

Went to turn the bike over, as havnt used it since the off in Aug. Was reguarly running her for 10 mins at a time, but for some reason the batt has gone flat - prob the weather!

Have it plugged in to optimate, and I have no power at all! Its not charging, or accepting a charge!

Need to work out what is at fault, battery, or Optimate.

Has anybody got a charger I can borrow for an evening, to hopefully find out if it is my charger or the battery thats up the creek?

I am car and bikeless in S London, so if anyones local and can help, it would be REALLY appreciated!

Cheers,

Chris

Where abouts in south London are you, I’m just off Brixton Road, Kennington park end and have a optimate you can borrow for a day or two.

leave it on the optimate for a while (few hours) and see if it starts to pick up charge after a while.

what off ?

Such generous members on this forum

take the battery out of the bike to charge it up. An optimate won’t de-sulfate a battery if it detects that it is still connected to a systems in case of shorts/overcgharging.

what fuble said take the battery off the bike…are you getting lights on the optimate?

DC multimeters are so cheap these days every biker should own one…connect in series with the battery/charger for current and across the supply for charger output volts , along with a hydrometer for ’ old ’ style batteries at about £5 and you’re sorted .

Cheers guys - am in Sutton.

Have braved the cold, removed the battery, and plugged it in on its own - will check in the morning. Gonna try to dig out the V meter!

Bit hopeful weren’t you leaving it there over winter and expecting it to still work? Hehehe… Good luck getting it back to life mate.

Prepared to hear differently from others on here but fairly sure that 10 minutes of engine running isn’t enough to do anything.

I dunno what you lot go on about these optimate things all the time, I went to my bike this morning after a week of below freezing in the garage and she started first time!

Running for 10mins doesn’t make a difference. You need the bike running at running temperature for at least 30mins.

I’m lucky, haven’t touched my bike since beginning of Nov, and started first time the other week :O)

I’d read the charger’s manual first to make sure that you are connecting it right to the battery and you haven’t missed anything.

A week won’t usually kill a good battery, but a month or so in Winter can kill one, especially if it’s an old battery. Optimates are basically trickle chargers that keep a battery conditioned, fully charged and help them last longer. They are fairly cheep and can recover almost dead batteries. That’s why alot of people like them.

plus in winter you put more load on ya battery…heated grips, lights on all time, satnav, intercom/music plus mine is outside not in a garage so an optimate means it fires up everytime
