Toseland

Hi all

cant help thinking Toselands making a big mistake joining MotoGP. Superbikes whether World or British, looks to be taking off with the interest from new manufactureres etc. The fear with MotoGp is will he become an small fish in a big pond in a chapionship that is arguably losing support in favour of Superbikes…

I don’t think he’ll fare that much better than Ellison, Hodgeson or Shakey, but I hope to be proved wrong.

The real big hope is Bradley Smith, but we’ll have to wait a while.

I’d have to agree to that. Smith looks to be the real deal and being that young he’s already immeresed in the MotoGP environment.

I think it’s a big mistake as well

I dont thikn he should go either, all WSB riders dont do well in MotoGP and he should know that, but i suppose it all comes down to how much they are going to pay him.

Personally I don’t think either Ellison or Shakey were good enough to be in GP’s. I do think that Toseland will do well once he’s found his feet.

I think Bradley Smith has some real talent and hopefully with the right bike and team next year he’ll do well.

It’s a shame that as usual the British press aren’t interested in either Smith or Toseland and are more bothered about the ‘wonderkid’ that is Lewis Hamilton. It’s virtually impossible to even find out the results for Smith in the 125’s nevermind any race reports.

Maybe it’s something LB can look into, whether they can produce more news articles and race reports with the ginger ones progress?

i think he will be good in gp

He’s putting himself under massive pressure - how quickly will his new team expect results I wonder

With pressure come mistakes, which JT rarely makes at WSB level, will the Tech 3 camp be as forgiving ?

Personally, I think Shakey is going great guns in BSB, I’ll bet Rizla Suzuki are gutted they let him go … Would he ever try out for GP ?

Shakey has been in MotoGP and was consistently at the back of the grid

Admittedly he wasn’t on top notch kit (Aprillia and Roberts) but he never set the world alight.

edit: If I remember correctly he also had a few rides on a Camel Honda

try out for gp? he was in moto gp a couple of seasons back and was a back or ar$e.

Much better on a superbike.

why would toseland not want to progress to the very top? he may not do great, but he’s got to find out.

the heart of a true racer would surely throw caution to the wind and say bring it on.

i think he’s langauge and mentality going into GP is all wrong. “its a massive gamble”. Get on with it man, go out there, get a brit on the podium, and ride with the spirit of a lion and win races. Got to be more postive, never know, may do well.

i think it’s a good move. he’s already won 1 wsb title and is well on his way to a 2nd title, what else is there to prove. surely every racers wants to ride against the best riders in the world on the fastest bikes.

he is on a 2 year deal, he won’t be on dunlops, is getting full yamaha factory support and a big pay rise. good luck to him.

if it fails he can always come back to wsb or bsb!!

I 2nd Meeks.

Plus if you don’t try you’ll never know and what the point in being fast when you have a shot at being the fastest n best in the World, a return to WSB can be his back up plan he may never need.
No one becomes a racer to settle for 2nd.

When he was at Hein Gericke for a publicity day he reckoned he will be the 1st guy to move to GP from SB and do well. He is a pretty determined rider and I think when he sets his mind to accomplish something he does. He is really down to earth but also very confident so I hope he can! Might take a bit of settling in but I have high hopes! Brandshatch was a wicked day but so freaking hot, no wonder he stripped off his leathers straight away !!

I for one think he has to go now - he could do the easy route and stay in WSB for a couple more years, get another world title or 2 but eventually everyone will say the same as they did about Foggy - he’s ok, but can’t hack the proper bikes - needs to go now, young enough to still be hungry, talented - deffo, right team - well always a hard sell for brits (it’s a Spanish monopoly on control of GP anyway, plus profile of Europeans not high enough, with not enough sponsorship money) on great bikes. But I’m sure he wouldn’t go if the package wasn’t good enough to get him near the top.

He spends a year or 2 proving he’s as good as we know he is, then gets the big break.

Any older and this route will not be possible at all.

He british, he’s gonna be world champ this season, I say good luck JT, and make us proud!!

Spot on.

He has to go and he has to go now.

The Yamaha deal with decent rubber is about the best he could hope for. Anyone who thought he’d get a factory Honda ride is wide of the mark.

Good on the fella ,i hope he does well, lets fly the flag, trouble is who else has won on the Yamaha apart from rossi ?

2 of the Yams are on Dunlop tyres.

Edwards raced a blinder in Jerez and has posted a few decent grid spots. I don’t think there’s too much wrong with the 07 bike.

Of course 08 will be a cleanish sheet - and Yamaha know that Ducati have raised the bar more than a little. I’d imagine things in HRC will be a bit urgent too.

First one to do well? Wasnt the current world champion in ama?

Edit - Good luck to Toseland btw, i hope he does well. At least hes got the guts to jump into the ring
