Today's Tip #1 - Hayabusa seat hump

Not sure how many 'busa riders we have on here, but I thought I’d share this handy tip.If you should find yourself unable to open the seat hump with the key, for example if you’re at Brighton Pier and accidentally lock your keys under the hump :Whistling:, or if you have to remove the lock cable in order to fix something like, ooooh lets say a faulty light connection and forget to re-connect the cable :Whistling:, then this little mod might come in handy. These things could easily happen you know!

All you have to do is drill a small hole in the fairing that is tucked away under the hump or seat, so hardly noticable. In the interests of erm, demonstration you can see in the pictures that I have left the hump locked in place. :wink:

If you loosen the fairing bolts, there will be enough play to prise the gap open and hold open with something like rubber pliers. Then you can drill the hole, big enough to fit a coat-hanger through. Then you can push the release mechanism, and hey presto. :smiley:

why didnt you just find where the cable routed and pull it?

And also your 3rd pic would only work if there was no cable/nipple in said hole.

Does this compromise the security of the bike. If it does, better pull the thread before there is a boom in stolen busa’s… But useful to know for proper owners!:smiley:

You can’t get to the cable at all with the hump in place. Also, not much use if it’s disconnected as in the second example.Even with the cable in place, there’s enough room for the coat-hanger. Anyhow, the piece with the hold needs to be pushed right to left in the picture.

There’s no benefit from removing the hump, unless they want to steal my waterproofs, warm gloves or the hump itself. :wink:

Much quicker to remove the seat. :stuck_out_tongue:

i am a new member (like 5 minutes) and you are my absolute hero. I did not expect to find such a tip here. I will certainly attempt to get my seat hump of my big bruiser.

Sadly, it has been stuck on for the past 3 years!!! I attempted a coat hanger inserted in the slit between the hump and the tail moulding at the front. It worked twice, but I aborted it the third time. This required a very accurately shaped piece of stiff wire. It works if you have lots of time to spare and a cool temper. I have neither of those.

So thank you for your tip and photos. This is just wonderful :slight_smile: But goodness knows what is living in the rear seat compartment after all these years.

By the way, I have had my hayabusa since 2001 i think.

It’s funny that although the Busa back end is closely related to the TLR, we have to mod our seat humps to keep them on:w00t::D:D:D

If I hadn’t managed to get it off this way, I’d have probably given it 3 hours of trying before taking an angle grinder to it. :slight_smile:

i don’t understand “losen the fairing bolts” so as I can pry up the hump. I understand “pry (prise) up the hump” but I don’t understand LOSEN the fairing bolts!

The rear fairing only has two bolts on the outside of the bike, no where near the hump!

where are these mystery bolts that, by losening, will give me greater clearance when I pry the hump up?

and yeah, i locked my damn keys in.
