TIME TO GIVE IT UP!

Looks like the my winter will be spent doing up the srad750,and 4/6 gullarm then will sell them to convert the k6 into a drackday bike (its only done 3k)with a day time mot, decided to stop ridding on the roads , just to or from the track , recent events , of certain bike accidents have made me decide may be its time to give up fighting traffic on the roads. Trackdays are /can be dangreous as well but your in a safer environment, and if/when you do have an off and its serious the ambulance is there’ no waiting. Ive survived that massive accident, back in 2002 , not going to give anymore cage drivers the chance to kill me , stay safe you lot , Si

Tough decision you’ve made there mate! How long will it last tho :stuck_out_tongue:

nuff respect mate, we all do what we have to, to stay alive, I was seriously contemplating the same thing the other day

Fair play to you fella but its not something i could ever do. I love riding my bike that much that just trackdays would not be enough for me. And its not all about the riding, meeting people and having a good chat about nothing in particular gives me enough reason to be a biker.

+1:)

You do what you have to do. If I had a family then I would seriously think about riding on the roads with all the things reported here recently. The roads are certainly more risky than they have ever been.

Don’t relish the decision you had to make.

+2

Can see why you’ve done it tho Si. All the best with the track days. Hopefully we’ll see you at the Ace, even if its just in the car!

after all the news lately, and knowning 3 others who have had offs recently i can see where you are coming from tough choice,

Fair play matey, thats more than respectable… I must admit I put alot of thought time into if I should get a road bike. I’ve done motocross racing for over 10 years and I LOVE riding bikes   :D, and as you say riding on a track is dangerous (ive seen broken bones, mid-air collisions, etc) but id say about 95% of the time having an off at a track is down to your own fault as its a controlled atmosphere (no cagers, drains, etc)… where as an off on the road!, id say the percentage is the opposite!, probably about 5% your fault!.

It is a very personal thing but, for me, life is all about having fun which, having tried various other exciting activities like skydiving, at the moment revolves around motorcycling, and life without that level of enjoyment is no life at all. I don’t do track days so riding on the roads is pretty well everything for me. The danger is part of the appeal and, bizarre as this might sound, the more danger there is, the more I want to do it (within reason). Part of the enjoyment is dealing with the danger by getting extra training, fitting loud horns, etc.I don’t think I can ever give up, voluntarily, the ability to just jump on the bike on a beautiful sunny day, experience the sensation of blatting through the countryside with like-minded friends seeing wonderful places and feeling great afterwards. The sense of freedom probably has a lot to do with it.

But there again I don’t have children, and doubt I ever will. If that changes, no doubt my priorities will change.

I completely understand and respect your decision. That must have been really hard to make.

It can be so bl**dy dangerous out there.

Good luck with the track days.

i’ll have your wing mirrors off ya…:D…ok…ok…just the right hand one then…;).

if you want to get rid of any other bits mate,im your man…hehe…

sad to hear this tho dude…ive had some major offs and they do hurt…

i suppose you gotta do what you gotta do…

stay safe bro

smiled:).

I have said that if and when i do come off my bike and survive that will be it. i am lucky enough not to have had an off in nearly 2 years of riding (touch wood ) but if i did and survived i would probaly stop through fear.

i have sirously thought about stopping but i dont do track days and there is nothing better than riding on a nice day i would miss it.

Hearing of another death really hits home tho but i try to believe in how i ride and i think i am quite sensible as we all know some bikers can bring trouble on themselves ( I said some )

I have a friend that i concider a much better rider than me but he has had servral off because of his ablility and going fast i believe on the road you have to ride without testosterone that is the killer.
