in my opinion, commuting in rush hour london traffic every day:
the worst thing out there is dam learner bikers who have just passed their test on 50cc peds with no idea what they are doing or how to even go round a corner…
had one idiot today cutting me up no-end…I was about ready to boot him road rash style…
Rather than get angry at them, see it as a game. Use it to improve your perception skills and dodging tactics. A bit like seeing how long you can keep your feet off the ground at traffic lights (improving slow speed and balance).
Then you’ll not feel as aggressive! You’ll live longer… honest
add this to the ‘game of chicken’ with pedestrians
the ‘fastest of the lights’ with sportsbikes game
the ‘hit cyclists in the face as they zoom by while your waiting at the lights’ game
:hehe:
Completely agree with Alex, you’ve got to opt out of the ‘game’ and rise above other people’s stupidity - if you don’t you are just as bad as them, albeit in a different way.
Most dangerous thing on the road? - IMHO it’s school run mums. I ride to work past a school and every morning I have to chance my luck with (usually) women dropping their kids off to school in unfeasibly large four wheel drive monsters. Double parking, pulling out without looking or indicating, talking on mobiles even drinking coffee or putting on make-up whilst pulling away - I see it every day. Even though I am crawling past at 10 mph they still glare at me like I am the antichrist about to mow down their babies - yet their atrocious driving is far far risker.
But, like Alex says, it just a game and I enjoy spotting who is going to do the dumbest thing each morning.
And i thought it was me! :w00t:
Its not really.
I thought that when i started couriering road rage would get the better of me but luckerly it was not a problem, if i got wound-up i would then be easily distracted then could end up getting myself into another situation, not fun. so i was able to develop the shurgg of and ignore it and better still predict the little W*>.er was gonna do something stupid before he did, its the unpredictable peeps that are the problem, don’t take any road users for granted.
agreed! and round here they all drive 4x4’s! no exageration there must be atleast 25-30 down the narrow school road everymorning all insistent on tryin to u-turn or stop on the zig zags
Most of the c*nts that I have experienced (admittedly, on the south side, going out of London) have no clue of anticipating other road users actions. And are a complete and utter danger to themselves and others. “Sorry mate, I didn’t see you…”…quite a reasonable response from a car driver to be honest when most of these fools don’t even attempt to show any caution when filtering by traffic at junctions, minor AND major.
Totally agree its the school run we should all be watching out for the most. Nearly got taken out by one big-time a few years back so I now know to give them a wide berth. I look forward to the school holidays when the roads are much emptier, safer and almost 4x4-free!
I’m surprised at the intolerance shown above towards learner riders. We were all there once. We should all be very pleased when new bikers join us, it can only be good for biking. We should give them our support and understanding.
Bear in mind they are embarking on what will probably turn out to be a very dangerous and painful learning curve so their nervousness is understandable.
As Alex says it is a game, the only issue is that there is no reset/restart button. You cannot afford to **** it up. So treat them with caution, let it enhance your perception and reaction times. We all make mistakes and all ride like loons at times and can seriously **** other road users off at times, just need to try and ride so that you do not affect the traffic around you. Ride like the wind, merge in and be smooth.
Has to be the windscreen cleaners at the lights, i had to swerve 3 times before i managed to hit the soppy tw8t;)
But seriously we were all beginners once and its only people that are more experienced that are willing to give a little advise to these newbies that will help them into better riders. Failing that buzz past them as fast as poss and scare the bejesus out of them:D Sorry i couldn’t help myself;)
they amount of times i come up behind one and it doesnt indercate to pull out is shocking. some drivers need to be taking back through training. ive reported a couple for seriously bad driving.
i`m a good bus driver i DO indercate and i DO look out for motorcyclists, cyclists and perdestrians. i just hate passengers
Taxi’s… local minicabs to be precise, these people should know better.,
school run mums should not be on the road.
Learners though, you have to remember that what the DSA teaches has to be black and white, or they dont always get it. Its not always the safest option either.
I’m a car instructor, my driving is excellent, but on the bike (i passed das last year), i’, still very much a learner, i’m having to think about what i’m doing with gears and where i’m going, so much that i quite often miss something important on the road. It is something i never expected when i learnt to ride, and luckily, it is improving all the time.
The poor kids who only do CBT get 2 hours of dribble form the instructor, 1 hour on the road, thats it, you’re safe to ride. Might not have ever done a driving lesson about correct thing to do.
