The end of the MCN London Motorcycle show

Hi all,

I was planning the usual jaunt with a friend to look at bikes, watch former world champions taking mini racing very seriously and some of the live events at the show, to find it has ended and no replacement show in the south is planned.

I know people have mixed views about this event and the location, but I will feel the loss of a London event, having been to them since the 90s at Ali Pally. For me this is annual pilgrimage that involves, bikes beer and curry with friends and I don’t think I fancy the schlep up to Birmingham…

Did many of you go?

Maybe a long weekend to the EICMA in Milan next year though?

Last time I went, I was able to get into the classic car show in the adjacent hall for an extra £10 and that was the days saving grace. The bike show itself was pretty 3rd rate. I think the era of big shows is over sadly. Birmingham seems to get smaller every year.

The Motor Show is now in Farnborough near my house and it’s pants. Feels like a village fete. Nothing like Birmingham in the 90s and early 00s.

The show has been on the decline for years, it costs about the same as Birmingham, but half a day at best, whereas I can spend a full day at Birmingham.

Key thing for me in north herts is I can get to the Birmingham show in the same time as it takes to fight through traffic to the London one.
