I have just been fined arbitrarily by the dvla for not telling them that one of my bikes is off the road. The fine is £80. The document was two months late…big deal but to me this is a money raising scheme, it has absolutely nothing to do with riding it whilst untaxed, nothing to do with doing anything dangerous and yet the fine is more than a fixed penaly speeding fine…which is supposed to be the most heinous crime of the century.
There is no attempt to remind me that I have not sent the sorn in just the fine

yes i have the same issue classic vehicles tax free but if i dont tell them its off the road immediately they fine you £80, its a complete heap of shite
Then I suggest you all write to your MP and ask why you should be treated like a criminal - DVLA know you have the vehicle and they know where you are - that is how they manage ot fine you. What real difference does it make that you didn’t send them a form? Is the world safer? Does the crime warrant more than speeding? Etc. Unless MPs learn of the sense of injustice nothing will change.
They are part of the system, the MP’s vote themselves massive pay and pension increases when the rest of us have to work for it, they are as corrupt as the DVLA, the local councils, the SCP’s etc, the whole system is based on money, corruption, theft and deceit, none of it is about being honest, doing an honest days work for a reasonable days pay and being a sensible, reasonable helpful member of society.
Look at the LibDems and how they have treated their leader recently, he didn’t have a chance, even if I did agree with their policies I couldn’t vote for them because they’re as deceitful as the rest, as soon as they get in it’s all self self self and what better example do you need than the way old Menzies was treated.
I returned the notices on 5 bikes earlier this year and still received a fine that appeared 20+ days into the 28 day reduced fine period. I asked what law they used to serve notices by second class mail and my letter was ignored. I wrote to the section head of DVLA and all the fines were dropped and no relevant reason given. Try it.
I have several basket cases on SORN. I get a reminder, I renew it online - It takes 10 seconds. You get a confirmation email and a letter. Where’s the hardship in that?
You havent always been able to do it online, plus they don’t always send a reminder.
The most recent one I got in trouble for was I had the reminders - I tried but too early to SORN them online, no good sending it as I get the ‘we havent received it even though they signed for it’ as I always sent them recorded delivery (but thats another story) So I return from holiday - SORN it online which triggered 2 fines on the mat a few days later :crazy: Yes a letter sorted it eventually but a lot of time & effort yet again.
Usually the online is really easy However a big fine for a little offence IMHO

The forms are not particularly difficult I agree, but with 40 plus vehicles, Companie regulations that chage every day, rules that say I am responsible for my staff if they dont wipe their own arses and get nappy rash, where I have to fight for even the most basic of rights against a tyranny of rich people who pay underhand cash to get their ways, where I am a convict for not having a sign on the wall telling people they cant smoke in my buildings…you surely cant wonder why I am like i am…
unecessary, interferring establishment that is not catching the criminals but making us all criminals…its not the way…there is no need for sorn…if you do not tax your vehicle then it is off the road…why do you have to send in a document to say I have not taxed it. If I have not taxed it then it is untaxed…and off the road…explain how that helps me or them…other than having a reason to fine me if i dont do the paperwork…it certainly wont make the tax dodgers pay their tax will it…
It is a cash generation scheme and we are all just sitting here and allowing the DVLA run rings around us …and taking our cash…you may all have time to do a sorn on line, so too do I but sometimes I will and can miss the dates…why should I then incur a penalty of 80 pounds for not sending in a bit of paper… how anyone can consider that sensible is beyond me…a penalty higher than what is charged for speeding, which is after all supposed to be the most heinous of crimes…which we all now know it isnt…
You need to turn the heating up, get some cake, a big mug of tea and sit in front of an old movie like a carry on film for an hour. Won’t take away the corrupt society we have now but it’ll help you forget about it for a while, it’s the only thing that works now, it’s gone too far for anything else.
No dont agree i think we can do something about it…anarchy here we come…but a good carry on film is great idea…i like john wayne or clint eastwood westerns…great films…
