The ‘Tail of the Dragon’ is a road in Graham County, North Carolina USA, consisting of 318 turns in 11 miles.

If you crash, the remains of your bike are hung on the tree of shame for all to see.

It’s got SUCH a reputation. I’ve seen harleys crash there, supermotos fall over, sportsbike total themselves, cars crash… it’s mad. There’s loads of videos out there. It looks like a great place, but you clearly have to give it complete respect and know your limits.

I used to live in Raleigh NC at the end of the nineties. Ridden the tail of the dragon on ZX-6R. Awesome road, not too bad for anyone who has some Alps or Pyrenees riding experience and used to shed loads of bends.

Some guys must know it inside out as they are quick. Also a lot of muppets and cruisers getting caught out on the bends…

Whoever was in charge of placing that camera on the bike KNEW what he was doing…so did that rider by all accounts…

What a rush that must have been…

Personal fave POV, well two actually.

  1. Camera hanging off the tail, pointing skyward as he took off wheeling

  2. From an originality point of view, attached to the swing arm so the full motion, wobble and vibrations were caught, INCHES away from the chain spinning like a bah stid!

That’s one CRAZY video Chuffster! The truck aside, I’m amazed at the claim of a doctor being arrested and ‘tortured’ by being placed in the back of a police car in full leathers and the heating turned up to induce a heart attack. Well, crazy as that is, he was doing 170mph Clearly they didn’t catch him on their chips harleys.

  • Update … WHOAH! It gets worse. A cop riding to work on his sportsbike was RAMMED by a cop car and subsequently died. The car cop was imprisoned for murder.

FOOK THAT! Get a grip guys, you’re there to enforce road-safety, not be the cause of road-safety issues! Our boys in blue would faint if they saw that, I’m sure.

Has to be one of the best ones I have seen. None of the advertising type filming of the R1 version and no hanging off like a monkey.

ZX10 - wouldn’t bother with one of those, don’t need a litre bike myself. As for going to the ring, trying to go this year, just not sure when and on what yet.

I can think of several roads on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees that are at least equal to that - and they are pretty much empty of traffic!
