Set off to work this morning, glad it was Friday at last…
Took a particular corner on the journey with some usual ‘enthusiasm’ and noticed the back end twitching a little bit… odd, I thought, so decided I would give the bike a once over as soon as I got to work. The handling on the way to work was a bit iffy but I was nearly there so thought I’d hang on. Waiting at some lights round the back of Regents Park I heard someone say “Geezer” - I looked to my left to be greeted with the sight of a motorcycle policeman :woot:
I started worrying about what he wanted… a bit fast here, slightly dodgy overtake there, plate size, zorst noise… all sorts went through my mind !
He then told me that I had a puncture in my rear tyre (second one he’d seen that morning apparently) as it was fairly soft - so that explained the handling then. By this point I was near work so carried on, got to work and stuck the bike on the stand to see what the problem is… only to find a deeply embedded screw AND a big dirty nail - about an inch apart - how sh1t luck is that ??
Racked me brains about how and where - didn’t ride over any desolate chevron areas or anything that morning… then had a vague memory of going past a house near me with a skip outside and builders vans - I heard a banging which slowed down as I did - I assumed it was a builder hammering - then realised i must have been the freshly embedded nail whacking against the hugger. Bugger. Why can’t these ignorant sh1ts clear up properly ?
So, worked through me lunch hour so I could leave early and get to Essential Rubber before closing time, got there and asked if it could be plugged, but was strongly advised against it as plugs shouldn’t really be closer than a quarter of the wheel diameter apart (and you can see from the pic mine were a bit closer), so painfully decided on a new tyre.
Sick part of it was, the original tyre was only fitted there exactly a month ago. AAARRRRGGGHGHHH !
Still, got me 10% LB discount.
