Taps

So…taps…anyone on here a plumber?

On Friday I changed my bathroom tap because it wouldn’t turn off anymore…but I couldn’t figure out how to reach up behind the bath to unscrew it, so I took apart the tap, and just tranfered the insides…which I thought was rather cunning…but now I can turn the tap to full torrent in like, 8 turns, but it takes about 50 turns to turn the fekker orf.

Have I b*ggered it up? And if so, is there any known cure for it?

At least it actually does turn off now though…

Any help appreciated, and tea and doughnut will be standard issue payment for wisdom

I’d love to be able to help, particularly after reading the reward, but I’m no plumber – just had to tell you how much your story made me chuckle – mainly because it’s the type of “fixing” I appear to be genius at: I solve boring old problems by creating new, young and exciting problems – only then do I feel a cry for help is necessary!

Remember I am typing this with one hand after ‘solving’ my recent hedge cutting problem!:D:D

I hope you get it fixed!

Hmmm Moley, if I were a builder, I’d say you need that wall out behind the bath to get to the tap properly and change it over, then make good and retile.

Dunno, these days you get two identical things, one a few years older than the other, and you fnd that the new one has been “improved” (as in improved profit margin) and is no longer quite the same in the gubbins. I’ll shut up now and wish you a plumber

Take the wall apart? Oh noes! I could just about manage finding the off tap for the water to stop running… Really ? The wall? It doesn’t just go downwards? …makes sence I guess…I just thought whoever did it before had really really long and thin arms. The most cunning thing about the plan was the rubbish tap was part of a pair, and the last occupants only changed the one tap, obviously cos it was sh!t.
So I used the insides from the hot tap, and just re-used the little thing that says ‘cold’.
I thought they’d be the same.

Thanks for your help 7wheels…I have to go to B&Q tomorrow, I’ll pick up some tile sticking stuff while I’m there!

if you have a leaking tap then as has been said you will need to get a basin spanner to undo the tap connector, you will then have to undo the backnut, you will also find that both can be an absolute pig! if you want to try and repair the old taps you can get tap renewal kits , these will fit both BS2020 and BS1010 taps and include knock in replacement seatings, personally I hate replacing taps allways ends up with pain and grief  the kits should be available through merchants such as Plumbcenter

You need one of these to undo the tap back nut.

Thank you for your help, I shall purchase one of those asap
