The wife is taking DAS end of this month, has been recommended SV650S as first bike - what do you think?
Any others you’d recommend? She likes the sports look!

thats a good choice.
have a good look at others in it’s class.
good luck.
Excellent choice for a first bike.
It’s a Vee thing:D
The SV is a good all rounder especially for newly qualified riders. It’s fairly light and being a twin it tolerates quite a bit of abuse (missed gears, riding in too higher a gear) it’s not a slow bike by any means and an ideal first timers one.
Good luck to her.
ITs a good bike, ideally suited to girls, ask ratty
:w00t::w00t::w00t:
yeah +1 to all above, very good first bike.
AHEM!
wait till we get on the lanes…
back to the thread…
yes they are excellent bikes for a newly qualified rider, i have had mine for 7 months(SV650S K4), and i have learned alot on it, the power is good, punchy as its a twin, power through out the revs too, so if you are i the wrong gear it doesnt matter to much as the torque will get you moving, also it doesnt need to be revved hard to get moving like some inline4’s do. in town at low speed i need to slip the clutch a bit too, mainly in traffic filtering.
one thng to watch is at high speed over anything but a smooth surface it can get a bit twitchy, as its a light bike, and it has a long wheelbase, it does’nt help that i’m a lightweight!
if she gets one, upgrade the brake pads(EBC) and tyres (pilot powers or same but 2ct version.) Also get teh suspension set up for teh riders weight, see BN race science for this.
highly recommended, its quick but not intimidating.
i love mine sooo much im never gonna sell it, i’ll just add to my collection:D
OH and get a new pipe for it, without baffles:w00t: sounds ace! no V twins should be free breathing!
Go for V twin, yeah. great bike.
It’s amazing how much Cred the SV has regained since Ginger bought his Bandit;):D:D
what bike do your ride steve ?
They are good bikes. Light, good handling and decent power delivery. You’ll get her hooked on V-Twin power delivery, nice low down torque. As said above, try to get it set up for the rider if possible.
great first bike.
But if you want a bike that will hold it’s value incase she is thinking of changing after a year. Get a Honda CBR600F
Sporty but forgiving.
Ahhhhh finally a CBR mentioned - you know it makes sense!
Kind when you want it to be - but completely competent as the riders improves.
Need I mention build quality, reliability, parts, prices etc etc?
(But my mate rides an SV and I liked that too - but not as much as the CBR)
The SV is great. I just passed in Jan, and it’s my first bike. It’s great and i love it too bits…
pmsl:D as ratty says WATCH ME ON TEH LANES:hehe::laugh:

not many have mate:P btw aint seen you on the bcr for a while:D
Talk about timing - I’m in the exact same situation… She wants the V-Twin mostly.
So, if I may hijack the thread somewhat - anything to watch out for specifically when buying one of these?
Thinking along the lines of: certain years had a particular problem with the ??? or after X,000 miles make sure that this or that has been replaced…???
Cheers!
I had a K3 as a toy for a while, had no problems with it, very forgiving bike ideal as a starter bike and you can throw them about in the lanes if you want, only down side, bit lacking in power.
