So as some of you know I bouht a SV650 a few days back…
but it seemed my normal 10mile journey was showing as alot more on my milage.
So after going for a journey to brighton saturday I thought id watch it… My speedometer itself is reading a little slow i think as if I do 30mph through a camera all the traffic will flow straight past… (Possibly 35-40) Or atleast it feels there going that fast. maybe im only doing 10.
The journey I knew was about 60miles registered as over 200.
When I bought the bike it had 45000miles on it. (pretty high I know) but this reflected the price, I also asked the guy if it was KMH/MPH who assured me it was MPH.
Last night I went for a ride with some friends. we all reset our trip distances.
CBR600-RR 6.9
GSXR400- 10.2
SV650- 10.0
So…
im assuming that my speedo is reading in KMH which would work out about 30000miles i think. (which i dont think is too bad for a 99model)
Is there a way to change it to miles? It just looks too high. and a few people i have spoken too said it should be miles…
it was probably a parallel import, back in the 90’s bikes were cheaper in the rest of europe, so independent dealers imported them & sold them cheaper than official main dealers could, usually the only differences were speedo & headlight…
HPI check might tell you if it’s an import. Possibly on the V5 it might say “vehicle first registered in UK on 31/12/06” or “vehicle previously registered elsewhere prior to UK”.
MyTextCheck works for bikes. Will tell you the year of first registration. If its after 1999 (dont worry if its 2000, could be late reg) then its probably an import. It isnt the end of the world as it means you paod for a bike with 45000 miles but its actually got 28000. Not bad at all!
strap a gps on your bars and watch what it ses and if it is you can get these converters think my dad payed £15 for his one and you skrew it to the bottom of your clocks and the speedo cable into it and it swaps it to mph then check it again with the gps and see what your results are
Has anyone else got/owned this shape SV??? That clock face does not look right, it may be worth following the cable from the speed sensor and see if you can locate a speed converter! (common on the imports to put a converter on rather then changing the clocks!)
Other then that, if the speed is inaccurate then it may just be a faulty sensor - loads on fleabay!
The speedo is in miles but the bike remembers kilometers and is showing that on the display?
IIRC, analogue clocks remember mileage in the clock mechanism, digital ones like this remember it elsewhere? a change of clocks is essentially just a change of screen?
I’m not sure if thats how it works but if it is, your bike could be in kilometers and your clock’s speedo is in MPH. I think the screen holds no data and just displays it from somewhere else?
Thats the only way I can think of your 10 mile per day recording as over that AND the clocks being in MPH…
