Sv1000R advice needed

i miraculously gound a sv1000r.

but there doesnt seems to be much useful info out there about it…

and before tou say it, no its not just an R stuck on for good looks… :cool:

really? you think the S1000R is horrible? or the HP2 or the HP4? or any of the Kseries? granted, some of the tourers are like boats, but all horrible?

also PJ has a 650 for racing. i had an SV650 but it was the old carb one.

says sv1000r on body work… listing doesnt… its got a few’ohlins’ stickers but are the ohlin parts? its also got USDs…

a few people are telling me that a 1000r doesnt exist, its just a sticker blah blah blah… whys this hot extras that arnt mentioned? (if it is just an sv1000s

As far as I can fathom, the R was a limited release to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the GSX-R its basically an S with stickers and some bits on. MCN did an article about it when it was launched but I cant find it anywhere. not sure what they did to it to pimp it up.

and why they would pimp up a 1000cc twin to celebrate the anniversary of an IL4 is also a bit of a mystery.

Yeah - think it was just a paint job - don’t think the SV thou changed mechanically in it’s entire run. All changes were cosmetic.

SV thou was never a strong seller - I think they gixified/pimped it up to get rid of the final units in the production run before it got axed.

I had an 03 SV thou and did nearly 40 thousand miles on it before it got totalled by a car so can answer some questions.

Not sure if I would pay a premium for the “r” as said earlier it’s an anniversary version of the “s” with just a paint job. Think that the “sz” version is probably a better buy as it had some power upgrades as well as a paint job. One thing to consider is that on either if your drop it you will have a hard time finding panels to match. why not get a decent “s” and do the GSXR upside down front end swap - think Shiver did this on his 650.

Either way sure Ratty will be along at some point to add his experience - think he wants another from a recent conversation.

Its a standard SV1000

The R and ohlins are just stickers, nothing more.

Decent engine and chassis just typical SV suspension, not great, very soft.

I JUST PUT A DEPOSIT ON IT :cool:

Why not just buy a gsxr?

If I saw it I would think someone just stuck a load of stickers on it and made it look shite IMHO

because i wanted a sports tourer, il be doing long journeys and i need a top box…
i also fancied a twin again and cheap insurance…
plus, the sv is cool!

There is no such thing as an SV1000R. They did the ltd edition SZ model but that just had different paint and bodywork, nothing mechanically different.

Great bikes though. Just watch out for a noisy clutch basket.
