Just found out that my SV thou has been classed as beyond economical repair and has been written off after I was punted off it by zombie cager woman (resulting in compund fracture of lower leg). :crying:
This is such a shag - I put 39k on that bike (bought it with 750miles on the clock) and was aiming to get another 40k out of it - plus it had two nearly new bridgestone BT021s - a chain with only 5 k on it as well - plus the top box was on it when it went down.
I’m going to try and make sure that I recieve the value of the 45 litre top-box and mounting kit on top of the value of the bike (by presenting receipts) - if that’s possible.
Don’t know what i’ll replace it with - e.g. I’m looking for an all rounder with a bit of stomp - either another SV thou or a Bandit 1200, or the orginal Fazer 1000 - or if I can afford it the new style Fazer FZS 1000 - (a used 2006 model) - although I heard that the fuelling was a bit crap on the 2006 bikes - and that it could be sorted with a power commander. Oh well - gotta wait for the leg to mend first!
I’d like the Yam - but to be honest it looks too classy and a bit of a thief magnet for work use (e.g. leaving it parked all over London) plus it only came out in 2006 and I can’t justify spending that kind of money on a bike that is gonna be an all year round workhorse.
I’ll probably end up getting a 1200 Bandit. Great looking bike though. . .
+1…the insurance company will be basing their assessment on every bit of damage, however minor, being replaced or repaired as new. If you buy your salvage back, you’ll be able to get it back on the road for substantially less. Just don’t pay too much for the salvage and you’ll be ok.
On the other hand I’m hoping, very optimistically, for the insurance company to write my sv off, so I haven’t got to bother selling it when it comes back…
Lovely Tuono Milleman. I’d absolutely love to take it off your hands but to be honest it’s probably too nice a bike for my purposes (all year round riding, parked up in some of the less salubrious parts of town etc) - so i’ll probably be looking for something less desirable - sure you’ll sell it fast though .On the other hand - absolutely spot on Dannyboy and Johnse1 - I reckon i’ll buy it back - chances are damage is a cracked top fairing and bent, grazed lhs exhaust, broken clip-on, clutch lever and broken footpeg + gear shift lever. (I don’t know what state the bike was in as I was too busy holding my leg together while waiting for the ambulance) - I can fix all that and i’ll probably just gaffer the fairing.
Hope things go your way with the insurance co./Sv Johnse1 mate.
Yep - like the look of them!
Yeah - strange that R46 mate - a lot of downed SVs at the moment.
hi. i’ve ridden all of those bikes and that’s what i can say about them:
sv1000 - nice low end drive but no power at high revs and very soft suspension and chassis
fzs1000 - less drive from bottom and comparable suspension, but a lovely warp drive kick at 7000revs and kicking untill redline wheelie all day, not stoppie happy, locks the front easily
bandit12 - as above but more flaccid
fz1 fazer - £150 gets you an FCE which lets fuel drip by at closed throttle fixing the snatch, 2006 have more power than 2007 on, suspension is harsh, but tweeking can really make a huge difference, less bottom end than fzs1000, but really kicking from 8000rpm, also much lower than others if you’re short, not wheelie happy unless you change gearing
you can’t really compare a v to an il4 - completely different kicks…
Cheers wlodek. Very nice summary mate - read it with interest. I love the fazer (2006 onwards FZ1s) but being practical if I don’t buy back the SV from the breakers i’ll probably get a 1200 bandit because although a lot less up to date than the yam it’s cheaper to buy, easier to service (e.g. valve clearances etc) and is probably not going to interest bike thieves as much so it’s more likely to still be there when I finish work! A case of head over heart!
A mate in work has that Fazer FZS 1000. (same colure and everything) It does look good, coz everytime he brings it in, i aways asking for a go, in exchange for the SV. Somehow he always says no, don’t understand mind you :hehe::hehe::w00t:
