Suzuki Intruder M1800R

I’m looking for a Suzuki M 1800 R like the one featured in the May issue of Bike magazine - my boss wants to have a look at one and potentially buy one - I’ve called a dozen dealers in London and no joy! Can anyone help? Thanks! Annabel

Mental bike. I’d love a ride. Our own KSGregman has just bought one as well.

I believe Premier motorcycles in West Wickham have one, if thats any use

Talking of the Gregster…is he still coming over? anyone know?

Thanks everyone. I’ve spoken to both dealers and both were really helpful. Can someone explain to me the demonstrator model thing? I’m trying to explain to my boss why he can’t test-ride one of these bikes!

I’ve had an M1800R for a month or so now. I bought it from Stamford Superbikes in Lincolnshire - just because they had a freely available test bike. If they know and trust you they just send you off on it, so that they can at least get some miles on the bike, if they don’t they simply arrange to accompany you.

Welcome aboard M1800R Rider! Please post up some snaps of your ride in the pics forum!

Dealers who don’t do test-rides aren’t worth our time in my opinion. It’s short-sighted considering the return they’ll get on sales. There needs to be a trust between the (potential) customer and the dealer, both ways. Those who shy away from letting people out on the bikes are just saying they don’t trust their customers, and who wants to part a lot of money with people like that?

I’ve had a bad experience with a certain London dealer and will never again walk in the place or recommend them, they burned their chance with an attitude problem. It’s not hard to find great dealers.

Steve Jordan in Bookham - nr Box, have one in their showroom. Sat on it while I was waiting in there the other day

Aye Gees in welling have a nice black one in their show room

It’s a monster of a bike…quite a change from my 2004 GSX-R750…but the more I ride it, the more I love it. That motor is TRULY something you have to experience to appreciate…:w00t: :w00t:

they do look absolutely stunning, how do you get on with the riding position etc and minimal ground clearance and driving amongst the traffic etc etc…really fancy a cruiser and this would have to be the one…

The riding position is brill…very comfortable. It did take a bit of getting used to…being head up, feet forward rather than head down, feet back like on my GSX-R. I’ve done several 300 mile + days and have been none the worse for the wear where I would have been crippled after that kind of mileage on the GSX-R.

The ground clearance is no issue at all. I have had both foot pegs scraping tarmac (not at the same time, obviously)…and have worn the rear tire all the way to the outer lip…the foot pegs have sliders underneath and they are on pivots so no worries. I can take a few close up shots of them if you are interested…they are DESIGNED to hit tarmac, give way a bit on the springed hinge, and grind on the replaceable sliders underneath.

I think it handles quite well for a big bike. That being said, it’s not even in the same league as a sportbike. Filtering is illegal over here so I’m not sure what you would be in for trying to negotiate her through London traffic.

In all honesty, though…the first time you got a nice stretch of open road in front of you and could twist the throttle in anger, all other considerations would take a back seat. The “fun” factor of feeling the monster torque an 1800cc V-Twin can unleash…combined with that unmistakeable V-Twin roar trumps all else.

Another cruiser cool i’m sick of being the only lowrider on weds nights

dont think he will be out with you on a wednesday night to be honest…but am seriously interested in a cruiser…should go out on one and see what they are like i guess.

But NOT because I wouldn’t want to be!!
