Hi everyone
Just passed my DAS and was looking to get a bigger bike in the next month or so…
I am at the moment torn between the new sv650 and the mt07
Both look amazing, but the mt07 got a bit more power and a bit more fuel efficient. They are both roughly in the same price range. I am also concerned about potential breakdowns costs and stuff. I have had a yamaha ybr125 and it was really a pain in the a** when it comes to costs of parts and repair. I might sound stereotypI called here but I think suzuki are widely recognised as repair friendly. I was just wondering if someone has purchased any of these bikes recently or any long term ownerror can share their experience.
Sorry about the typo mistakes
the suzuki engine is a lot older but that also means a lot easier to get parts and it’s very reliable.
you have a tough choice though, they’re both good bikes. I suggest you test ride both of them, ideally on the same day, and make your own mind up based on that.
as much as I like the SV650 the 2016 looks wank
get a MT07
I know
It’s a tough one although am more keen on the twin on the SV being learner friendly in terms on engine breaking and torque at lower revs but the Mt got more power at higher revs so it’s a tough one
If you plan to get a bigger bike, I would dare to suggest the Sv may teach you more, but I’ve ridden neither!
I windowshopped for the 2016 SV650 and it looks no where near the old models
Its got that retro look to it but definitely more of a modern bike styling with the new dash and bars…but that round headlight is a let down tbh
Not had either but, know plenty of owners of both and they are all very happy with them.
As said above the SV will be cheaper to repair if something does go wrong due to the amount of time that it’s been out.
Just stumbled across this article.
Not had either but, know plenty of owners of both and they are all very happy with them.that's the old SV the new SV has had to be brought up-to-date inline with Euro 4 emissions & it may be a V twin engine with SV parentage but unlike the rest of the previous range (excepting the suzuki gladius)As said above the SV will be cheaper to repair if something does go wrong due to the amount of time that it’s been out.

there wont be a lot of " inter changeable parts" so prices will be comparable with the MT07
& Suzuki will struggle to update the SV engine anymore as it was at the end of it development life (there only so many spark plugs you can fit into a head)
The SV has a well proven engine & in it latest guise & a few models previous it uses 4 spark plugs
The MT 07 hasn’t had any major failings (yet) & uses 2 spark plugs & is a relatively new engine has development life left in it
so service the MT engine works out 2 plugs cheaper
I do favour the SV but it is now getting really long in the teeth.
The MT-07’s are a load of fun! Never ridden and SV.
The real deal is whichever one you opt for, as a first big bike, you’ll be wanting to trade it in fairly soon.
Best bet, not that I’m a gambling man, is to go through a variety of used mo’cycles and get a feel for what’s what and what suits you Sir.
Well see here I can give you an educated answer.
I own an sv650 and rode an MT for a month.
The MT is a seriously nice bike, great power, great position, handles really well abs works a treat! It will be my next bike for sure.
Got the sv650 back took a day or 2 to get back into the swing of an older bike but have to save I really do love it. Handles perfectly as someone mentioned above parts are plentiful and cheap.
I would suggest riding both as they both have good positives, but whichever you get you’ll not be disappointed!! That I’m sure…
tnx guys
really great advice
i would consider your point National Treasure as I wanted to go for a PCP for one of those bikes
this opened my mind and i might actually try and look for something second hand first
