Supporting a local business in watford

Firstly I hope its OK to post this here, if not please delete.

The group who did the mental health ride are getting together again to support a local business in Watford and I’d like to extend the invite to anyone who may be interested.

We will be meeting on

Saturday 18th October at 4pm

Starbucks Coffee, Chiswell Green, St Albans AL2 2AB and riding to the event as a big group.

It’s a short ride to Watford but will be good vibes and nice social atmosphere.

Meet the guys, show off your bikes and get out of the house one more time before the end of season!.

Hope to see some of you there!

Today’s the day!

All the info above still accurate. We will be leaving starbucks around 5.30pm so hopefully that’s plenty of time for you guys to make it!

Really hoping to see some of you there!

We had a great turnout for the event, 30+ bikes, good vibes and we all arrived and left safe, hope to see you at the next one!.

What’s the business you’re supporting?

We work with a few but that specific time was for a place called Big Juicy Burger.

Highly recommend them if you like burgers and they have a few locations to choose from

We’re going again! This time opening a store in Hemel, if anyone would like to come along you are more than welcome. Prob the last one of the year. It will be cold but good energy! And every biker that comes with us gets a free burger :hamburger:

Hope to see you there!

Heh, I wonder if I’ve spoken to you at the Starbucks one afternoon while Nick’s been up on one wheel  I might wander round and see what the fuss is about on Friday evening!

Just as a fair warning for any guests - the wot boys are the talk of the local whatsapp groups now that most of the car problems have been dissuaded, so it’s pretty likely our friendly neighborhood PCs will be about on Friday evening. These rides are a bit more Friday night at the ace than a Jestream jaunt.

There’s at least two noise-activated cameras on the A405 towards Hemel but we’re pretty sure they’re front-facing (and the deal is you get a S59 on the second triggering I think).

Also the Shell at that Starbucks is the most expensive petrol within a several-mile radius so it’s worth filling up elsewhere

It’s possible we have spoken then yeah very possible!

When you say we are the talk of local WhatsApp groups could you elaborate a little for me? Nothing bad I hope.

We’re good people enjoying our hobbies together and when going to an event it’s far less spirited. I miss the jetstreams and would say the general riding is similar to them haha. Would be great to have you with us either way. Stay warm and ride safe!

Honestly, it’d be good to see you - one of the names I remember from the busy times of LB - now I wish I’d bought an LB hoodie back in the day so we could recognise each other!

I want to thank you for taking the time to reply and for putting your thoughts and experience into it.

If I can I’d like to try and address some of the concerns a little bit.

Obviously the first part of your message regarding car meets was for context and anything negative including the assault you mentioned had nothing to do with us (just clarifying incase it is misread)

I appreciate that as a biker you understand and support loud pipes so thank you for being a voice of reason in that scenario.

As for blocking the path, we are not intending to be a nuisance by parking there but leaving more room for cars in the spaces and not putting the kickstand on grass which as I’m sure you know can sink and lead to the bike dropping. We always leave plenty of room for people to pass by and, at least in my experience its not a busy route for foot traffic.

Whenever we pull up we turn our engines off almost straight away and when we leave we are not idling for long, the time it takes to put on helmet and gloves is usually it. We make sure everyone is ready and we leave together but we certainly are not making tons of noise over long periods of time.

One of the things you mentioned was being lied to about knowing him and specifically talking about a big bang R1, obviously I can’t speak for anyone else and I wasn’t there to hear the whole conversation but that’s just general loyalty, if you’re riding with friends and one of you gets pulled over… suddenly that’s just a random biker. We all know the rules and we all look out for our people.
Also if you asked who was riding a big bang r1 and they said they didn’t know then they were telling the truth in that regard as the model isn’t a big bang and they may have been genuinely trying to work out if Any of the members had that model bike or not.

Very few of the bikes are decat and even less have flip plates but modifying a bike is of course down to the discretion of the owner.

As for our “token woman on a 125”, we have several female members on bikes ranging from 125s to 1000cc, we all start somewhere and they are certainly not “token”.

We are not there to frustrate the locals in the same way the locals are not there to frustrate us, we just exist in proximity to eachother.

You feel lied to but I don’t think you have been lied to.

Complaints about noise have been made and they are installing noise cameras… that’s on the people who made complaints. We really don’t idle for long and if you are worried about leaving your home on a bike then I would ask how loud is your bike? Maybe the neighbours have mistaken your bike on occasion for one of ours? Just because we wear a hoodie doesn’t mean we are a problem. We arrive, support the business, enjoy eachothers company and a coffee then leave…

And as previously said, very few of the bikes have flips and they are not illegal and often used when the bikes are at shows.

I’d like to finish my response by saying that I’m sorry you have a negative opinion but there’s two sides to each story,

We work with children’s charities,
Mental health charities,
Community outreach and local businesses to try and do some good for local communities, the goal isn’t to upset but to give back and help because we are part of these communities.

I’m grateful for your honesty and I hope you can appreciate mine.

It would be great to see you and talk about old time, arts fjord adventures, the jetstreams zx12 that even though he had a pillion always out paced everyone and of course I’d love to talk about any memories you have of Slan (Ruth) cause I know she was a big part of the LB community and one of my closest friends.

When your biker group is “wide open throttle”, I don’t think anyone’s going to believe they’re a “nice” biker group.

Name reflects the attitude, clearly.

What a silly thing to say. I guess London Bikers never ride outside the M25 then? Same logic.

We are trying to do positive things and your response was a negative one… says more about you than us.

Im really not trying to be confrontational and would still love to see you guys come out and meet us.

Stay groovy.

Heh, yeah, I really didn’t mean to do anything here but give some context as to why the local residents will all have leapt to pretty negative assumptions when you turned up. The bit about lying was just that I believed Nick when he said that this would be a quiet and social group and so I went and repeated that to my neighbors and I now wish I hadn’t.

Obviously I’m out-of-date on spotting sportsbikes by exhaust note, though!

This isn’t where I wanted this thread to go, I just meant to warn some people that if the police are about on Friday eve (and it doesn’t really sound likely anyway) then it’s not anything to worry about, and then I got a bit carried away when you asked why!

For what traffic LB gets these days, shall we just delete our posts here? This isn’t a conversation that needs preserving for anyone’s posterity!

Although I don’t live in London anymore, if like to point out people are getting progressively less tolerant against any sort of thing they consider ‘nuisance’.

Aroun the A24 Mickleham/Box Hill there’s been a constant amount of ganging up against bikers, even though the meeting points have been going on for aeons. Recent poll against noise pollution shows people feeling completely self entitled and demanding which has resulted in the new average speed cameras around the area. Funny as the main culprit are in fact sports cars.

So be considerate or there will be consequences.
