Stubby Exhaust

What are the pros and cons of a stubby exhaust…would it make the bike run lean, increase in noise ect… Cheers.

got a very stubby race can on my bandit 12  sounds awsome if you like it loud  did run slightly lean but hardly out at all with just can. if your fitting full system though will need a fine tune to make it run right and not ‘pop’ constantly

I would think its down to looks as well, a nice stubby exhaust or wheelie bin like the new bandit or b-kings got, no contest really

the pros…

short pipes on a four stroke improve evacuation of the cylinders at all speeds…

they are louder and sound meaner.

they will improve performance across the range but may reduce maximum power…

the cons

The improved evacuation of the cylinder can cause the engine to run leaner than before and may require either a needle valve adjustment or a bigger main jet in the carbs…may also require some timing adjustments too…electronic systems may adjust automatically…some might not…

they are louder and sound meaner

they may reduce maximum speed

they can damage your engine if they run the engine too lean…anything over the stoichiometric constant of 14.7 to 1 is considered lean…
