It’s a bit of an update on a previous post titled ‘possible bike thieves’ however I want to get attention of anyone who has had a Gilera scooter stolen or knows of anyone who has.
Story so far:
I live in Archway and was alerted at 10:30 on Thursday night by a neighbour saying that 2 suspicious guys were checking out my covered SV1000S and a covered unknown bike next to mine, which was chained to a lamppost, parked on the road outside my house. When a person came walking down the street the two fellows hid behind the wall of my house. Once he had passed they started checking out my XVS650 that’s also inside the wall of my house. Since this neighbour had never spoken to me in 20 years but was concerned enough to do so now I took it seriously and put a note up in this forum alerting members possible dodgy characters about.
After much discussion with an LBer who recently had their bike stolen on a Thursday but two scouts who later returned at 4am with a van and helpers to throw the bike in tho the back of a van, I informed the police at 1:30 that morning, who didn’t think it was a priority, fair enough.
The bike next to mine was still covered in the morning and throughout the day, but when went to leave the house at 8pm, it was over on its side with the cover pulled off and left next to it. This is when I realised it was a scooter, which had recently been sprayed racing green from red. It also had no number plate. I had never seen the Gilera before and to me it looks like the two fellows have left it there for some reason. I informed the police with the update, but was told since I couldn’t give them the registration, they can’t check if it’s been stolen so it will be treated as an abandoned vehicle which is not a priority. Another mate reported an abandoned car outside his house, in his parking bay, which is still there 6 months later.
I went to a family do and when we returned at 1 this morning the Gilera was still on its side, but when I got up at 6am it was recovered and still chained to the lamppost and there was a long screwdriver left on a bin inside my wall. I went down to the police this time with the chassis number of the bike but they just don’t seem interested in any of it.
I have had bikes stolen 3 times in the last 15 years from outside my house, once from inside the wall. They were all cheap runabouts, but I can’t afford to have these taken. I hate the idea of a couple of sh1tbags outside my house in the early hours of the morning with screw drivers messing with my bikes and the fact that it seems ok for them to stash a scooter on my road as long as they remove the number plate.
I know that everyone here takes bike theft seriously and can understand my predicament because the last thing I want is for these dodgy people to think this is an area where they can do whatever they like and get away with it.
To make matters worse, when I got on my bike to report the chassis number to the police at about midday todday, I rode off without taking the front lock of my bike with all that was going on, and dropped the bugger on to myself and I’ve really messed my back up. So unfortunately I won’t be able to give the buggers a slap with my Hurley stick should they show again.
Sorry if this sounds a bit like a police report I’m very tired from two nights jumping up at every sound and also in a lot of pain, and I do want to find out if anyone know anything about this Gilera bike and, if it has been stolen, I want to reunite it with its rightful owner, as well as get it away from my other bikes so these crooks will realise this is not a place for them to play.
