While fitting a R&G tail tidy to my CBR600RR everything was going swimmingly until I decided to use the supplied number plate light instead of the old one…follwing the instructions that told me to splice the new wires to the existing ones I proceeded to get the wire cutters out and snip off the old connector!!! Thats where the problems started 'cos guess what??? Yep thats right, I’d snipped the brake light connector off instead. No problem I thought, I’ll just get the electrical tape out and reattach it…hmmmm no perhaps I won’t, cos stuppidly, I’d cut the wires literally 2 or 3mm’s from the connector, thus not leaving enough to allow me to reattach.
Now, you good technical lot, what can I do about it??? At the moment my only real option is to call in to LJ Motorcycles in the morning and ask Les if he can manufacture me one. Has anyone else got any ideas??
there is always going to be one who laughs at your predicament,
not me (he he honest) been there done that…get connectors crimped onto both ends there should be enough to do that you only need about 3-5mm and then push the newly crimped on connectors together…job done…
I think the only way is to remove the connectors and fit bullet connectors simple…forget the old connectors altogehter as was suggested earlier…and yes we have all done stupid things when fixing bikes…or anything come to that matter…
I once got married then stupid ass that I am did it again…wont be doing that again…hmm now will I…
The metal clips inside the connector where the wires are cripped on to do come out,
Generally there slid in and the metal connector tag has a return on it, this is to stop it being pulled out. (This is not the case if it’s an over moulded connector).
You have to release the return clip on the metal connector or some connectors have a plastic return clip in the shaft where the metal clip slids into. To access the return you have to generally have to access it from the opposite side to there the wires go in, You need very fine screw driver (1mm- watch style) and a good eye.
I have done this before and can be very annoying, but it can be done.
Good luck
