Spilled a load of fuel

So this morning, suddenly my engine cuts out. Fortunatly, it wasn’t too busy, so I could roll the bike to a safe spot at the side of the road. I could smell fuel, got of the bike and looked, and indeed there was a load of fuel everywhere, dripping from the fuel pump area.
I let things cool down a bit and wait for the fuel to evaporate, then switched on the ignition, and indeed, as soon as the fuel pump went on, it was spurting it all over the place from the little nozzle that comes out the fuel pump.

Looked a bit closer and the hose seemed loose. I could move the hose clip and it suddenly “clicked” on the fuel pump nozzle again. Let it dry out a bit again, then turned ignition on and off a few times, everything seemed fine. Turned the engine on for a bit, revving it a bit, and still everything seemed fine. Rode to work and checked and still everything dry.

Are those connectors supposed to just “click” on or is there something to secure them?

I’ve got a motorway trip on Sunday morning, and I’m thinking what if it happens again when the engine is really hot? Surely there’s a risk of fire? So not sure what to do as I don’t really have time before Sunday to leave the bike with a mechanic to have it checked :frowning:

Theres nothing more scary than looking down at 80+ to see your bike on fire

happend to my zxr in otford few years back luckily i managed to get off and rip the fairing away that was on fire and some one ran out with a fire extingiusher or the bike would of been a gonna

the fuel pipes on my srad just click in place dont seem very safe but have never leeked maybe some one had fiddled with yours before hand?

Get a little fuel hose sized jubilee type clip or similar from a bike shop/motor factors and stick it on the end of the hose where it became detached and tighten it (if it’s a jubilee type clip) but not too much - only enough to keep the line in place - don’t over-tighten - for piece of mind and to avoid your bike turning into a fireball  .

Good advice Sid.

Well we’d hate to see the poor fellas pride and joy going up in flames eh PJ!

Absobloodylutly:D

a while back i was riding my bike an noticed a small fire heating up my crutch ,so i started banging at it with my arm next thing the fires out an my arms on fire so i start waving my arm about , within seconds i see flashing blue lights ,so i pull over only to be nicked for possessing a firearm.

Thanks for the advice.

I don’t think I can use a normal jubilee clip. Then end of the hose has a little square “cartrige” type of thing that clips on the fuel pump. I’ll take a picture later.

haha! I actually laughed out loud when I read that :w00t:
