Does anyone know if there is some explanation why a speed camera would flash me even when I wasn’t speeding. I was doing only 35 through a 40mph speed camera at night and it flashed me twice. I was going deliberately slowly cos I’d only just got the bike and had no desire to lose my license so soon after getting the bike… I can’t work out why it flashed though… Please someone give me some beautiful explanation that will put my mind at ease :S
could have been a warning flash for someone coming towards the camera from the opposite direction .
I wouldnt worry about it though.
Could be a faulty camera?
Also if a vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction to you and broke the beam at the same time you did it would trigger the camera (there’s a knack to it…:))
So nothing to worry about if you’re sure of the speed any possible NIP can be disputed (if it ever gets sent…)
+1 i think there is a web site you can check to see if you have been pinged, but for the life of me cannot remember what it is, other way is not problem anyway, so long as its a gatso.
Some of them aren’t properly calibrated for bikes and get confused. Also they can be triggered by vehicles on the other side of the road.
I found out that the cameras on opposite side of the north circular heading towards Hanger Lane from Ealing could be triggered by me doing 40mph near the centre dividing line when I had my Hi Viz on.
When round the block more than a few times to confine and not to waste the film. ;)
par for the course fella, there all sh%t!
dont worry bout it, if it turns up on the mat deal with it then…
This is why the lines are on the road - there are loads of things that can cause the camera to flash, including vehicles coming the other way, vibrating parts of your machine, even birds or stuff blowing in the wind. If you get a NIP ask for the photos and you will be able to measure your speed on the road using the lines and prove you did not exceed the speed limit. To be honest, I doubt you will hear anything as every time I have been flashed I have always been going slower than the limit and have never had anything in the post.
Was there any traffic on the other side of the road, in particular any bikers?Gatsos can be set off by traffic approaching them on the other side of the road. Once you discover that you can do this it’s important to do it as much as possible. There are two cameras on my commute that I have to test in the morning and then on the way home when I pass them in the opposite direction bikers going the opposite way set them off. I’ll get over it soon but not just now.
lol nice! its like a service to the community i get it… ![]()
There probably isn’t, but it is nice to think of a jobsworth sitting somewhere, having to sift through all the photos of Kevsta and Joby setting these things off time and again and wondering wtf is going on:)
There wasn’t any other traffic on the road at the time. Thanks though, feeling quite a bit better about it
I like the ones that you can set off facing you, give them a wave as you pass just make sure your NOT wearing or riding anything that sticks out like stickers etc cos if they track you down ya f***ed
lol i was about to say, a guy in scotland got done for doing that…they tracked him down because his bike was quite rare in that region so easy to trace through dealers and all that lol, he did do it twice a day for six months giving them the finger each time though…
Ive been flashed loads of times and touch wood, I havent heard anything yet. There’s one coming southbound on the northcircular in the 40 zone that always flashes under 40
I say burn them all using old car tyres and petrol, ar the smell of a flaming gatso, just like following a 2 stroke first thing on a sunday morning, pure bliss
I say let’s grass Kevsta up and watch him get 1200points and an indefinate prison sentence.
Mu ha ha :w00t:
