SORN - Late penalties???

I SORN one of my bikes off the road today but unfortunately was a bit behind in doing so. When I filled out the online form it reminded me the vehicle was 4 weeks out of tax and the owner of the vehical was liable for legal action…

Has anyone been done for this before???

Yep,a few years ago forgot to SORN an old Golf I had,got £40 fine:w00t: Not impressed, can’t remember what the time scale is and how much grace,if any, you get!!!

Saw this as well when I taxed my GPX online the other week, going to await the call…

Indeed, got done for this when my ex-wife part-exed our car (with my knowledge!) and the garage probably didn’t report it properly. Had to write a couple of letters proving when it ceased to be our responsibility, which they eventually accepted.

And then fined us half the amount for not telling them, which we couldn’t argue.

I don’t think the DVLA give any grace now…not for SORN anyway, it’s worth too much money to them…

They have had to change the rules on displaying tax discs though, the law changed a couple of months ago, so it’s now legal not to display a valid tax disc providing…

1;it’s less than 14 days since the old one expired

2;the old one is still displayed

3;you’ve already bought the new one but can’t display it because you haven’t received it…

I think they’ve had a lot of trouble with the postal system since the advent of on line purchasing of tax discs

looks like ill be awaiting a brown envelope then! Doh!

let me know how you go Elad

I have found that if you stay away from taxing online, and that the vehicle hasnt been clocked by a camera (has been off the road) then you are fine and can go the whole year without anyone at the tax office noticing The problem starts once you make them aware of the fact that you are late with the taxing of the vehicle then they will want to get that money off you, because its their way, and they are clamping down on late payers.

pionts on your lincense, not taxing your bike…i dont know!! what r u like!!:Whistling::hehe:

its pure nuts, you get a fine for bnot telling them its off road and the fine is more thant the tax…its pure money laundering on a legal scale…I have chellenged them each time to take me to court, and I have never lost…but they are getting more and more keen to steal our money because ALL BIKERS ARE CRIMINALS…well thats what the government, police and DVLA seem to think…its part of the reason why they say 40% of bikes on the road are untaxed…most are not and most are not sorned, i have 8 bikes that have been off the road for much longer than the sorn has been in place…they never chase me, and they are not on the road but I bet they are in their stats as illegally on the road…

SORN is legislative theft

When the tax was due on the divvy I registered her as SORN straight away. It was easy to remember cos it was due at the end of August like the Ninja was. The MOT was also due in September…for both bikes. Doing SORN has hopefully broken the cycle so they’ll both be due at different times of the year now…unless Dave gets her back on the road a year after she was taken off…D’OH!!

The DVLA make my blood boil (most will tell you that’s quite hard to do). Good luck.
