But I’ll put it aside. Does anyone have a (non premium rate) telephone number for the bunch of tozzers at Sony?
(They probably the worst, most unreliable web site I’ve ever encountered. Can I really believe they have no repair agents in Europe?)
It’s just a simple, but good, computer monitor that needs (I’d guess from the error code) a new graphics card. Can I find anyone to talk to about where to get it repaired despite a lot of today on-line or on the phone.
Thanks for the phone numbers guys, I’ll give those a try tomorrow.
It’s a monitor/TV (Model MFM-HT75W) so it has its own graphics card for use when it’s stand alone.
The error code reads “Cable disconnected DVI-D:PC1” (It’s definitely not an external cable that’s disconnected.) DVI-D:PC1 is generally a graphics card code.
Sony’s TV people say it’s a computer monitor so not their trade. Sony’s computer people (Once you get through at 37.5p/min.) say it’s not a computer so not their trade.
Now do you see why I say it’s worth a rant? Just getting too old and tired for all this sh**. Proof? I can’t even be bothered to have a rant any more!
I’ll have to agree with the rest here. There is no graphics card in your monitor. Yes it can work both as a monitor and as a TV, hence it has a built-in tv tuner and appropriate ports that you can connect your computer to. But the only monitors that have a graphics card are the ones that have the whole computer inside them (also known as “all-in-one pc”) and this “Model MFM-HT75W” does not have that.
“DVI-D:PC1” - DVI-D the port on your monitor where you connect your computer cable to. PC1 - the port on your computer where you connect the monitor to. So, the most likely causes are: faulty cable, faulty ports on either the monitor or the computer, dead graphics card on your computer or dead monitor. I would try replacing the cable first of all making sure that is not the problem. Second would be checking the pins in the ports on the monitor and computer - see if any of them are bent or broken.
