I know this shouldnt go in the general section but i need some assistance ASAP!
My clutch cable snapped today - big deal - i have a spare.
However, the lever that comes out of the clutch cover now has no resitance! So now I have to look forward to not only fitting a new clutch cable but also removing the fairing, draining the oil, removing 12 bolts, replacing a gasket cover and putting the screws back with some loctite.
Anyway - I digress - I want to know why the lever coming out of the clutch cover housing has no resistance? I think that a spring has either come lose or broken internally.
Does anyone know what this spring is called? Is it an actuator spring?
I would just call it the clutch release spring
Looked in a couple of manuals for bikes and the same for cars. Guess what? They all call it something different. The only common word is “spring”. Wow.
“Clutch lever return spring” seems the best I’ve come across.
The only thing about calling it a clutch level return spring makes it sounds like the one that sits on top of the clutch housing cover and not the one underneath - im going to be calling about 10 companies tomorrow and i just know im going to get sick and tired of explaining everything time and time again:)

You’ve just reminded me i have the manual on CD - not just the Haynes but the honda engineers one too - ill see what they say.
Right - had a look on the CD
Apparently the arm that sits on top pf the clutch casing is called the lifter lever which in turn pushes on the lifter piece.
There was no mention of a spring so maybe its just jumped out of alignment as opposed to being broken?
