Small plastic WTF in my fuel pipe.

After taking the carbs off my old Yamaha I noticed this small plastic thing lying on the crankcase among the tubing - did’nt know what it was but put it aside :ermm: .

When I was putting everything back together and looking at the pics I took while dissassembling I spotted it poking out of the carburretor main fuel socket :w00t: !

It appears to live inside the pipe/fuel socket - what is it? - some kind of rudimentary filter? Never seen one of these before.

Looks like a fuel filter. Is it plastic?

Yes - it’s a little piece of plastic - it looks really unimportant and I nearly forgot about it until I looked at the pic - I’ve never seen anything like this in a fuel pipe before - and the haynes doesn’t mention it.

I can’t find a parts diagram for a Thunderace, but there’s an inline filter there on the diag for it’s FZR1000 predecessor, part number 44 in this diagram:

What an odd design for an inline filter :s

Thanks Pat - that’s definitely it -

I have had a look at the thunderace parts diagrams and the shop manual and it’s not identified or mentioned.

Though to be honest looking at the parts diagram I’m having trouble identifying the main hose - it doesn’t appear to be on there unlike the FZR diagram (although it’s clear where the two breather hoses (36 and 38) are.

it looks like the filter out of the tank on my 50 petrol tap when i changed it it had it on there it looks like its been sucked outa your tank and down the fule pipe or something this is the petrol tap that came up for a thunder race. im probly wrong but that is what it looks like to me

I checked with the forum for this bike and apparently it does live in the pipe - but thank for the interest - I didn’t know what it was so to me it could have come from anywhere.
