Should there be a classic bike section?

Thats too old IMO

The age limit should be 10 years as required for “Classic” insurance status.

If you go for 25 years then you exclude such modern classics as the Slabside Gixxers, Ducati 888’s, RC30’s, OW01’s et al:cool:

I can`t see why not.

Nice idea! It’s important to remember our heritage. My grandad and uncle had everything from velocettes to BSA’s (goldstar), and my German great uncle was a club racer in the 50’s. My mum used to go to the Ace as a teenager in the sixties - the pics of the Ace from that era are fantastic - e.g. the ‘ton-up’ boys/59 club on their trumpets, BSA’s and Nortons etc.

But only until they are 25 years old!

But my point is you don’t have to wait that long for a bike to be a classic.

What do you reckon about the ZX7R Chunkie? It was never revolutionary in terms of technology or performance - but it is THE classic Ninja. - e.g. everyone reckons it looks classic (one of the best looking mid/late nineties era sports bikes).

Yep, a good case in point, however I personally think the ZXR750H would be the true classic Ninja as it started the ball rolling, same as the Slabby did for Gixxers:cool:

I think you’re right about the ZXR750H! It IS the classic Ninja (I’m so besotted with my ZX7R that I forgot all about it - doh! :stuck_out_tongue: ) - perhaps another 5 - 10 years for the ZX7R then! ;)

Does it matter too much where you set the bar?

Came across a meeting of a “clasic” car club some years ago but could not understand why some newish (10/15 y. o.) cars were there.

Seems their rules were 25 years or as agreed by a majority of members as interesting or likely to achieve classic status.

Thet interpreted “interesting” quite liberally.

I guess you could say that bikes/cars in the 25 years old and older age range are classics because that is far enough back in time to make them a fairly distant memory - distance in time/space cultivates the nostalgia for a bygone era which is an essential facet of ‘the classic’.

Anything younger than this is just a technologically/aesthetically out of date item from the recent past.

This is one of these discussions that has and will always go on forever, a bit like “What defines a Streetfighter?” Everybody has their own interpretation of what a classic motorcycle should be.

In my eyes a classic bike has to have been a popular machine in its day and evoke good feelings and memories. It’s not about age.

I’m old enough to remember some absolutely shocking bikes made 25 or more years ago that are now sold as “classics” where they really ought to be described as “lemons”

Carole Nash will insure any bike over 10 years old as a Classic and I think they have the right idea:cool:

I’m over ten years old - I also won’t ever see 25 again - does that make me a classic or a lemon? :D;)

Definitely a fruit of some kind:D:D:D

Probably (fruit)cake!

Now that IS a classic:D

Perhaps one day i’ll be in the same league as Battenberg! ;)

i think any bike over 15years old is worthy of being called a classic. my personal favorites are the rgv250 and the urban tiger fireblade(which would qualify nxt year;))

i know its not over 15 years old but i think the aprilia rs250 is iconic bike aswell

the way bikes are changing so fast a 5 year old bike is so different from a current bike that you could call them classics,…however personally I think 10 years is a bit short and 25 too long… but I would vote for anything that gives the older bikes a good ear, as has been said there is a good deal of knowledge on here with most of it given up willingly and for free…excelent place for it…so come on jay and team where is the classics section…

“Iconic” - Thats a good word:D nice one Kev:cool:

thanx m8 how many miles av u put on ur bike this year now that the nice weather has all but gone
