Shoei XR1100 First Impressions and Video Review

I got a bloody steal with the Shoei XR1100 and it’s a damn good lid.

If you fit the lid, buy it because it’s probably the best mid-range helmet there is… coming from an Arai Corsair, I would rate the XR-1100 as a bloody good lid!

Bought it, loved it, trashed it.

Will replace it with a new one shortly. Just have to order one in specially as I’m an XS.

White is the new black! Indeed!

It’s gonna look pimp with the Blink182 logo on it :P;)! I was gonna get a ghosted red-bull decal but every **** has one… at least with the blink182 smiley face it’ll personalise it. Overall i’m dead chuffed with the lid since it’s reasonably priced and fits well. Least I don’t have to get a RX-7 GP

Good review, thanks.

Told by the guy from hein gericke that mine was the first hadron design xr1100 in the uk when brought about six months ago, caught them with it in a stand giving it the once over. Add to that a black visor from a dodgy shoei rep (cheers tugs!) and you have the makings of a top lid.

Im glad I could help dude, catch you soon

Excellent helmet shame my left front vent blew off after a weeks use :(. Still waiting to get a replacement for it as shoei/crossan sent the wrong colour out for my helmet

this helmet is great cant fault it. with all the vents open you can feel them really working although it is definatly not quiet!

got it cheap when it came out due to website error :stuck_out_tongue:

Try XXS…that’s a hassle.
I bought mine online and it came from Madrid within days of ordering it. No discounts but no surcharges either…and you get a better range of colours in Europe.
The XR1100 is a great helmet. Much better than the XR1000 but sadly it’s still pretty noisy.

I bought an XR1100 - have to say I prefer the Suomy Vandal that I had before, it had better periferal vision, did not steam up as easily, and in my option, had better vents…

The forehead vents on the XR1100 at high speed push the air directly into my eyes, not the best. I just close them all the time now…

My chin vent does that so its not much use at speed but the head vents are okay

Can I just say…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0v1mEq-IAA

This is not me, or anything to do with me, but this helmet is the absolute dog’s ********. The video reviewer talks about the fog free visor, in torrential rain, in humid conditions, I was breathing slow and hot like you would on a mirror to write on it, and I could not fog the visor. It fits my head like a glove, and I know that is personal, but it really is snug and nice. Even has like an inflatible valve that you can use to make it fit even better.

It is also legal to ride with the visor open, as it has been tested as an open face, I know some don’t like open face, but its handy and gives better vision around town if you not driving at speed, and having the chin guard up, means that anytime you like, you can simply pull it down again.

I would also add that out with the LBers on the St George run, we hit some pretty heavy rain at pretty high speeds and my head was completely dry, no leakage at all.

My only regret is that the guy has a matt black one in the video review, and mine is shiny black, if I ever replace this one, I will likely replace with the same model and get the matt black.

Right, I need to find a nose guard for this helmet now that goes over the vent. It’s spring so it’s hayfever season. The problem i’m having now is that whilst the face ventilation is good, it’s pushing a LOT of dirt and pollen into my eyes leaving them decidedly red, dry and itchy after the end of a ride!

Secondly, does anybody do vinyl cutting or know of anybody that does vinyl cutting? I want some red bull decals cut so I can stick the to the sides where my blink182 decals used to be. Except I want them with the sun in grey and the bull in black - I’m trying to go for the all black and white look with my gear now.
