Went in to put some petrol in the car last night, pulled thr trigger watched the money start rolling but no petrol. so after about 20p starts coming through.
Once finished I complain that it started charging before pumping to which the reply was
“well the tanks are over there mate has to come all the way”
me “so I’m paying 20p for the petrol to be delivered to the pump”
tes “all our pumps do that”
me “well your ripping people off as when I let go of the trigger it does not carry on with another 20p of fuel does it”
tes “just telling you what I’ve been told”
I know it is only 20p but it is not the point! imagine if every time you did that, over a year (I fill once a week) would be £10.40 wasted! which would be about 2/3 of a tank in my bike!
simple thing to do is take a measureing jug next time you fill up before you fill yr car/bike up first put a litre in in the jug and see what it charges you for one or more litres that you put in the jug
I read this thread the other night and guess what??..
I went to Tesco in Ashford, Middx to fill up on the way into work this morning and had a similar problem. Put the nozzle in the tank and squeezed the trigger… no fuel but the gauge ran-up 27p, then the pump stopped. Went inside to tell them, and was answered with “oh sorry, there’s nothing I can do about that…”
So, I’ve printed my receipt from the pump and am going to let Tesco know what’s happened…
thank you for this thread, this sort of thing should go on national news, only then they’ll sort their sh1t out.
hhmmm, Tesco’s eh?! from now on i’ll avoid every tesco’s petrol station like i avoid KFC for their cruel handling of animals, and i’m sure Mcdonalds are doing the same.
I rang Tesco customer services this evening and they have taken the details of my complaint and will call me back tomorrow…
I always use Tesco for fuel because I get a big chunk of £££’s on the clubcard. Other than this, I’ve had no other problems, so hopefully, I’ll get a satisfactory outcome.
Well done for posting this up. It’s clearly got people thinking and so they should.
Imagine how many people use Tesco petrol stations on a daily basis? And what if they had the same thing happen to them - all those odd 20p’s add up in the end…
Companies like that make enough money and they should be bending over backwards to ensure their pumps are accurate so it is surprising 7 alarming to see a number of similar examples of this.
Hopefully they’ll sort this out and people will get what they pay for…
Post up any responses to complaints - as they say somewhere…Every little helps!
I was in the same position as you up until about 2 years ago. And with the local 24h shop, it was great as I could go there almost ANYTIME thus beating the crowds.
However I just got sick of the level of rudeness of their staff, be it the Coven Garden shop or my local shop - no “please”, no “thank you”, no smiles - just cold hard stares. WT-…
I wrote to their so called customer service department, highlighting the problem is beyond that of one shop, and that there may be a deeper issue with their staff training. Tesco wrote back with a standard letter, and that’s it.
If they think they can push away their customers because they’re big - sure, I’ll just go to Morrisons and Sainsburys instead. Ha!
Interesting thread and cannot wait to read the standard reply from Tesco. I have had my arguments with Tesco and their month on month planning applications to make their store bigger and open for 24hrs (one of only 2 Extra stores NOT open 24hrs). They really do not care very much about their customers and the staff dont have a good word to say about them. The petrol station staff are the best because they get to know their regulars and allow them to fill their bikes without taking their helmet off (apart from the pay as you go pumps).
Keep an eye on the pumps, I will check on my next fill. I wonder what the local trading standards will think.
