SHAME - Daytona Motorcycles in Ruislip

Sarah bought her ER6f brand new in 2008 from Daytona Kawasaki and bought the best alarm they sold at the time, a Datatool 4 which was £400 inc installation. The shop installed it for her and provided the Thatcham certificate to certify that it had been installed correctly.

A year later the bike went to Bike Pavilion in Letchworth for a small item of unconnected warranty work and the mechanic noticed that almost all the alarm wires were coiled up under the tank and said that they should have been connected when the alarm was installed. The alarm would sound if the ignition was switched on but the bike could have been bump started and ridden away. There was also no tamper switch and no isolation circuits.

She took it back and initially they tried to convince her that the wires didn’t need to be connected . . . . it took almost 3 hours for them to agree to connect the two isolation circuits and the tamper switch and that was only after the mechanic suggested it would be quicker to do that than carry on arguing that it didn’t need to be done.

The reason they felt is didn’t need to be done was that they said the bike had a factory fitted immobiliser - but it doesn’t and their sales chap knew that. But in any case, why rely on an immobiliser when you’ve paid £400 for a fancy alarm system ?

So if you have had an alarm system of any kind fitted by Daytona Motorcycles in Ruislip - get it checked ! Make sure it’s been installed as it should have been.

Sorry to hear that distress…anyone recommend any installers out there?

Sorry to say that they have been my nearest dealer for years (as well as HGB who I think actually own Daytona now) and I use them both as a parts/spares suppliers.

Would never trust them with any type of work…

Our very own Chaz (CharlyBR600-RR) should be able to advise on these things.

Maybe pay Chaz to have a quick look and make sure everything is installed correctly just to make sure, especially if it was installed by Daytona.

I’m reliably informed that HGB do own Daytona. I wouldn’t use either of them to service a push chair! There customer service is pitiful, and have been listed in Ride as one of the worst dealers in the UK.

+1 They are both owned by the same guy, always thought that seemed a bit pointless owning 2 bike shops within a stones throw from each other but it obviously works cos they’ve been there for years!!

I have always used HGB to get little bits and bobs for my CBR and they have always been very helpful in their parts department, used the HGB Tyre centre in South Ruislip too and they were a helpful bunch of blokes

Dare i mention that they serviced my bike on the friday which included the cam belt change and on the sunday she packed up on the M25 due to a cma sensor coming loose…coincidence :w00t: Mind you they where very helpful in collecting the bike from my house and seeing to the repair. Fortunately there was no cost involved due to Ducati having a 2 year warranty and that was coming to an end 5 days later:w00t:

I would add though that they were not very forward with information as to what had happened and when i was likely to get her back. Oh and everyone knows how much i clean my bike, so i was bitterly disappointed when i did get her back to find greasy fingerprints all over her and the clock was not even showing the correct time. Petty maybe but to me its the small things that count just as much.

Gotta say i am not over impressed with the way i was dealt with so i doubt they will get any further custom from me.

:stuck_out_tongue: Their tyre shop is about 1 mile from me and don’t use them anymore either…I had to push my NTV back there one day when the trainee mashed the (new) valve when fitting a new rear…and they are Bl**dy expensive compared to other tyre shops.

The cafe next door is good though…

Went to Daytona once looking for a change of bike. The salesman was pissed. I left. HGB mashed the power on my rims the one time I went there for a tyre change. Not impressed at all.
