I’ve never taken a Bike to a dealers for servicing as i’ve never owned a Brand new Bike so done all my servicing myself, my Blade is now due its 8000 mile service but is now just outside its 3 year warranty period, would you get the dealer to service it or do it yourself (if you were capable), the warranty is no longer an issue so it’s now just a matter of having the 3rd Stamp in the Book or not. I would probably do a more thoruogh service than the dealers as i think 8000 miles is just oil and filter and is just over £100. I would do, Oil, Oil Filter, Spark Plugs, Air Filter and Change the Coolant. I’m not too fussed about the money as the differnce would only be about £50 between them doing it and me doing it myself, so is a Dealers stamp in the Book worth spending an extra £50 on? should i pay for the service and get the stamp and then just do the Air Filter, Spark Plugs and coolant when i get the bike back? or just do the whole lot myself and write it in the book myself and keep the Receipts?
Personally when buying bikes I really like to look for a nicely stamped book, if stamps are from the dealer even better… I don’t trust DIY services and it doesn’t inspire me any confidence when buying a used bike. Also considering the fact that you have a fast bike and that the kind of use is given its’ a bit more extreme than say a scooter, I think stamps would help towards a future sale. Just think that you need to convince someone that your bike is in mint conditions not only on the outside. Everything helps.
Tricky one, we all like buying bikes with a full service history but none of us want to pay the price when owning the bike.
If you’re thinking of only keeping it a short while, get the dealer stamp as it’ll help in selling it on. If keeping a few years, service it yourself.
Personally a bike owned for a few years and serviced by owner with matching invoices for parts and looks tidy goes a long way.
I’m probably going to keep this one for at least 3 years so i’m thinking…Get it serviced by Honda for the 8,000 mile oil/filter change to get my stamp then get all the extra bits (Coolant, Spark Plugs, Air Filter) and do them when i get it back, Then i will do my own full service again at 12,000 Miles with receipts kept in the service Book, then it is in to Honda for the Big One at 16,000 Miles with the Valve Adjustments etc, then after that it will be Serviced by me with full receipts and a happy wallet
That way i still have all the full dealer service schedule right up to the main one people look for, after that if i do it every 4,000 miles and keep a full log of it with receipts until i sell it as the next main Dealer one isn’t untill 24,000 miles and i doubt i will get it that high in the time i own it so i will therefore have full Honda Service History when it comes to selling it
What your proposing there is what dealers term as Part Service History, Full Service History means every service done and stamped by the dealer. I’ve seen service books where a dealer has stamped the book and endorsed over the stamp ‘oil service only’
NO, no , no no and no. I’ve owned five new mo’cycles, and many more used, apart from their first oil n filter service none of them ever went back to the dealer again. Why would I want to pay a dealer £60.00 per hour to do something I can do better myself? For the warranty, get out of here, if I thought I needed warranty I’d not have parted with my hard earned in the first place! Did I lose money when selling on with no dealer stamps in the service book? I don’t think so. Two were written off and good money was had via third party insurance claims. The rest were sold on as 5 or 6 year olds with 75k plus miles on the clock. The age and mileage was probably more the mark of what they were worth rather than a few dealers stamps in a book for God only knows what level of Service?
