Seat Too Low!

Its felt odd for a while liek its been lowered!?

The last owner was a woman, and i think she may have lowered it but theres no dog bones or anything to suggest it has so maybe its been set to lowest setting??

i’m around 5’10 and my legs are very bent sitting on it! also when doing slow manouvers in traffic etc sometimes it feels liek the bars are really high up!?

how do i go about making it sit a bit higher without messing handling or anything up? tis a 2006 Hornet 600

Maybe it had a shorter shock fitted ? How does its adjustment look ? Is the spring backed off ?

All the reviews I have ever read say the Hornet has a low seat height.

hmm maybe, have no idea to be honest, it dont look stretched so to speak, just i need it to bit a little higher, need to take seat and the side panels off and have a proper look at the shock, will do that in the morning, get some pics while am at it and post em.

this is true, but its like midget low!

If it’s not a suspension issue, just get he seat reupholstered.

Gives you a chance to get a gel pad included to save the hammered arse syndrome the Japanese have inflicted upon us.

If its similar to the old hornet then it doesn’t take dog bones…

From what I recall the suspension bolts directly onto the rear swing arm and there is no suss linkage, So it’s a case of adjusting the suspension to suit…
Unless the suspension has been changed.

preload? if the woman you got it off was tiny, the preload could be at the minimum setting, or at least too low for you.

yep the hornet is short (or im tall  )

best way to be sure is to measure the seat high should be 789.94 mm (31.100 in)

Looks standard to me… I think you are just tall…

thats me* dufus, not ratty

*bike was standard

new shape has a low seat too.

have you stuck renthals on there? do that to lower the front end a bit, rearsets are pretty common mod too.

i still feel like i want to jack up the backend or something though. handy in traffic.

Can you stick some shims between the suspension mount and the chassis to raise the back end on these bikes?

no i have standard bars, pan is a bit taller than me but i’m not short, think it might just be how it is?

i’m off to essential in a bit so might have a look while im there, oddly since i have fitted lower after market mirrors the standard bars feel smaller and different:blink:

i take forever to get round to doing things but will investigate the shock soon.

You have your bars mounted to the rear of your bike?

I was talking about shimming the shock dude

dont think you can do that due to the way the shock bolts to the bike.

get a new bike

probably am soon, way too easy to find the limit on the hornet, plus i need something with more go!

Maybe your legs are long and your arms are short
