runing out in front of a bus that is on a green light as i pass..........

Yes thats right as the bus pulls away i over take it LUCKILY at 10 mph or so and a girl runs out, just gets past the bus and bang i hit her.

The bike stayed up, and she was not seriously hurt just bruised it seems and other than breaking the clips on my screen ( which will cost me if the screen seems unstable in the high wind) there was no visible damage to the bike!

Just after it some guy came up and starts yelling at me saying i should not over take, telling me bikers are idiots etc, which was very annoying but someone told him to shut up and go away which he did after he gave the girl his number and i had lots of people saying it was not my fault and that they are happy to be a witness if required so i felt terrible for the young lady but glad people did not just blame me as a stupid biker!

My point is why run past the bus, its so so silly, and so annoying, the police were as sympathatic as they are allowed to be saying they see it alot esp with tourists, but pointed out that as the light was green and there are no zig zag lines that the colour of the lights speak for themselves.

But i cannot help but worry she will try claim compensation, its such a joke, we stand no chance in this situation as i cannot make a counter claim as she is on foot, so i will be paying for my own screen and if it turns out there is any other damage i will be paying for that also, then when my insurnace goes through next year it will no doubt effect it.

I wish her well, but wish people where more careful, i can see it was not so smart of me to go past the bus but i did wait until the bus moved and the light was solid green, i was not pulling off the line a 100mph. I’m ranting i suppose as i’m know having to wait to see if i get fooked for no reason…

a dissapointed slightly frustrated biker!

p.s - the police where really good, they get bagged out alot but they where really cool, one of the guys saying he grilled the girl in the ambulance and not to worry i would not end up in court so this was a small relief to hear, this and when he came back after running a check on me he said i needed to be arrested for “exposing Myself” shocked me for a brief moment before making us laugh as he winked and said i proberly shouldn’t have said that infront of your missis!!

because people are fuking stupid!!

and the next tw@ that sprays me with screenwash is gonna have BOTH wing mirrors removed AND im gonna punch there fugging lights out…

do you think someone upset me today?..

That’s a tough break. I sympathise totally, having come very close to having the same thing happen to me on a few occasions, as indeed I’m sure many of us have at one time or another. Hope the damage is minimal and that’s the last you hear about it.

did you get the details of the bus???

if so you should be able to go to the bus garage and get the cctv footage of the incident down loaded of the buses camera` they should have caught the whole incident on film.

if i can help it i try to not let people cross infront of my bus and if they do i keep an eye in my mirror just incase a bike is filtering pass to which i sound my horn or stick my hand out the window gesturing to slow down/stop:cool:

Im so sorry mate :frowning:
People are stupid and just dont look… I was overtaking a lorry once and some silly woman ran out inbetween a bus and this lorry and the lorry hit her right infront of me… Stupid woman didnt think… (DW she is ok lol)

rixxy Just because she is on foot doesn’t mean you can’t claim against her.

If the police clear you entirely, you can take out an easy civil action against her. Probably the small claims route, for your losses.

Thing is, by the time you’ve been cleared of all blame by the police, can you be arsed?

She’s had the fright of her life and (we hope) learned her lesson and you’ll have paid for and forgotten your lossses.

Difficult I know, but keep good records of everything, just in case, and try to put the whole nasty incident behind you. She survived, you survived, that’s a result.

Well said Frogga. Too many bus drivers roll up to the advance stop line meaning we have to edge further forward to see round the front of the bus before pulling away- what’s that all about then?

from what you have said, you were in the right and overtaking at a sensible speed

friend of mine was involved in similar accident at the weekend; had to lay the bike down unfortunately but is ok which is the main thing… but the muppet who caused the accident ran away

bloody pedestrians!

The EXACT same thing happened to me 4 years ago…

Passing a bus stopped at a bus stop, just as I get to the front of the bus, two peds come pegging into the road looking the wrong way. Turns out they were pissed up American tourists!!! I hit one of them and came off my brand new 8 week old R1.

The Old Bill turned up and they were cool about it. The damage to the bike wasn’t too bad and neither of us were injured. The biggest pain in the arse was my insurance company who suspended my NCB whilst they investigated if he could make a personal injury claim against me. My insurance was due a few weeks after the accident and my insurance jumped from £400 to £2500, so I had to sell my lovely R1 and buy a Fazer 600 whilst it all got sorted out.

well I assume they would be better off doing the same thing but meeting another bus/van/truck/car overtaking the bus instead of a motorbike… idiots, see if they are still around to claim anything.

There are plenty of vehicle besides bikes that overtake busses at stops… I always tend to go wide and slow down expeting idiots to run out. Only one time I had the bus driver beep and pull his hand out gesticulating for me to slow down… I appreciated the gesture as it saved me hitting a car coming from the side road in front of him.

Don’t mind me asking but if she wasn’t hurt why the hell was she taken in an ambulance?

+1 i to do this in the lorry if i see a bike filtering so far stopped a couple of incidents from hapening

they probably just think you are some dirty courier and you could use a free shower!

seriously though, that winds me up to no end… i actually followed cars until they stop at a traffic light to educate them about their impact of window-wash on any motorbike riders behind them… they seem to simply be ig’nant about the fact and most take it well!

pmsl :D:P

Glad everyone is ok!

This reminds of the riders that ride down the bicycle lane on Upper (Lower?) Thames Street heading west on my commute in the mornings. As you rightly point out rixxy, if you’re that close to the end of the bus and a ped steps out (even at 2mph our) you’ll hit them!

A good tip from my old IAM Observer is to look in front of the front wheel. You normally see the peds feet a fraction earlier, but with new Buses this doesn’t seem to work so well…

i know of a bus driver who recently joined the gararge but was let after 6 months later. the amount of accidents this chap had that were his fault was unbeliverble he managed to some how wiped out a bus stop sign.

were all trained to stop the bus smoothly and safely to the bus stop, traffic lights and so on. if a driver stops in the green cycle box then hes jumped the light.
