I know the obvious way is A3, M25, A40, but that’s really tedious and boring, and motorway riding isn’t exactly fun when everything’s stationary (and being honest, I might take the car some days too) so I’m looking for some creative suggestions for the next 9 months.
Anyone?
Due to truncation of the subject it is not clear where you are heading for.
go tp google maps… to direction search and then click the line to get the desired root.
e.g. click-drag gave me this (you need to put these in:
**Guildford ** to: A307/Portsmouth Rd @51.355340, -0.382720 to:A316 @51.435270, -0.384660 to:harrow )
hope this helps
Guildford to Harrow - that is never going to be too good. Some idiot put Heathrow Airport in the way! Sorry, I can’t think of a better route, but can recommend a bright yellow 250 for commuting - it is amazing how many people move out of your way to let you through!
i would go up the A3, weybridge, sunbury, cranford, northolt, harrow like this:

Alternatively u could go weybridge, walton bridge, then a316 richmond, kew, hanger lane etc, like this, - quicker roads but traffic is a bitch in the morning.

“Guildford to Harrow - that is never going to be too good.”
Thanks, that’s really heartening. My other half’s only suggestion was “move to Harrow” - think he’s trying to tell me something?! :hehe:
I’ll go the original route tomorrow, but will be investigating the other suggested routes too during the course of this week. I suspect none of them will be much better than the boring M25 but might give a little bit of variety.
Sorry - I did think of “move to Harrow” but guessed it would not be appreciated. I also thought of “commute at 2am” but again thought it wise to keep that to myself!
Seriously though, a smaller brighter bike might be worth considering. As would travelling outside normal hours as far as possible. I am trying to be helpful, honest!
Thanks for the assistance folks, but it became very clear very quickly for several reasons that I’d made a dreadful mistake in accepting the job in the first place. So after my 2.5 hr journey in (I got lost!) and another 1.5 hr journey home I decided that I’d write the day off to experience and call them to let them know that it they needed to find someone more suited to the role. Felt dreadful doing it and have never done that in lots of years of working, but was the best decision.
And then another job comes along and I start tomorrow, and it’s about 15 mins away - how’s that for a result!!!
