Robbed

this is a bit of a rant,

ok, so we exchanged houses (we are housing association) yesterday, when we 1st veiwed the new property all looked good nice big house for me my fiancee and our troops.

we move in, we move into a 3 bedroom house, of which we cannot use any of the bedrooms.

1st. because a leak has caused the entire ceiling to become unstable!
2nd. because it has a broken window and damp
3rd. because this is a roof room they have not sealed the roof properly so a draft goes through the room.

This is also just the tip of the ice burg there is exposed wiring, some windows will not even close.

How can the housing association be aloud to move young familys in places not fit for squaters.

I feel absoultly robbed as we moved from a nice 2 bed flat (albeit a little small).

it is actually so bad we are having to stay with other family members.

I’m soooooooo angry right now and surprise surprise the people we need to talk to today are not in!!

ok rant over, many thanks for listening.

Take a trip to the assoc offices, explain your problem & sit there. They will have someone who can deal with it in the building somewhere. Take a packed lunch

Did you have a housing officer walk around the house with you and check all was in order before you signed the tenancy agreement?

no they went round while we were not there, they put on the signed paper a surveying tech went round and to me that says they had sent in a surveyor and I’m sorry he must be really bad at his job if he missed all these things.luckily I work for a law firm that deals in property matters, I have spoken to one of the solicitors who has given me some advice and told me to bring in the contract and she will have a look over it for me.she recons they would have to do the work within the next 3 months (which I guess is bareable) but annoying as we thought it only needed a bit of decoration.

Bad news mate.

Were you not allowed to view the place before agreeing to move in?

Oh babe - how annoying.

You’ve done the best and I know you pretty well enough to know that you won’t let it drop or let them get away with anything. Keep bitching at your housing association officer and keep them on their toes.

Good luck xx

we did see it, but believe me it did not look that bad when we veiwed it, the people we swapped with had clearly done a good job of hiding it all.

I did however get them to sign a piece of paper about all the work need doing before they left and I expressed how dissapointed I was in them…

not that they cared much but no surprise there.

thanks and I will, believe me, if this aint sorted quick I will seek legal advice to take one of both of the parties involved to court for compensation.

Before you start threatening anyone with legal action remember you only moved in at the weekend and its now only Monday morning mate.

PM sent mate

sorry to hear that mate

read that and many thanks, I’m not taking legal action I was just asking where we stood, and how long they have to sort it out kinda thing rather than taking anyone to court, I’m happy to give them to the end of the week as I know things will need sorting but I would expect them to have at least booked the contractors by then.

We recently moved into a new place in Budapest. We expected it to need a bit of a sort out as normal. The estate agents blurb told of " a good working hot water system" - central heating I though…Oh no no no… This is the beast in question. There is no safety thingy in it - flame goes out -gas keeps coming:w00t:. Fires up with an almighty bang and flames then sounds like a jumbe jet. Frightens the sh!t out of me !!No panels have been removed - this is what it looks like- Legal? Probably not…
