i understand these cameras deal out an automated fine to the registered keeper when the scan any vehicles on the road without valid tax
Does anyone know how these cameras deal with vehicles without mot? is it the same process
I know youre legally allowed to use a vehicle without an mot if youre taking it to or from an mot or vic test station, is that all you can do these days?
Back in the Day didnt they used to give you 2 weeks grace on MOT’s?
Just need to find out if i should keep mine off the road only until i take it to get MOT’d
Not aware there has ever been a grace period for MOT. There was once one for tax, and there still is as far as display is concerned as long as you have paid online or by phone before the previous tax disc expired.
ive checked it all out and in the case of an incident the insurers may check the mot, if found to be invalid the insurance would be invalidated as a result. Based on that ill just use the car til i get it sorted.
Unless a specific exclusion (which it rarely is) insurance will cover you as long as the other conditions are met. However, if it has a condition that the vehicle is maintained in a roadworthy condition, and the vehicle is not due to a MOTable item being faulty (such as faulty brakes) all bets are off.
Even if you are not covered due to one of these technicalities, the insurance would in practice cover you for third party’s losses. This does not necessarily mean you would not get a ticket for not being insured!
Not having an MOT is a bit of an insurance minefield. Given that you can’t be ensured by eBike without an MOT, but cant get an MOT without getting to a testing station, there has to be a very entertaining for legal geeks case in there somewhere!
