planing to use the bike i buy (settled on a CBF600 - now looking around) to go to Greece in Sept (to see my folks).
Is the back seat comfortable enough (for my girlfriend) for such a long ride.? a friend of mine did it on the back of her boyfriends Fireblade and she hated it!
I would suggest a proper tourer for that distance mate. Your pillion is going to be uncomfortable for that sort of journey without something to lean on.
Sportyish bikes aren’t really condusive to long distance 2 up riding.
um didn’t you just pass your test mate? have you taken taken her pillion yet? wouldn’t recommend a new rider takes a pillion for a good 6 months minimum. you need to pretty sure of what you’re doing before adding what is effectively unstable weight on the back
top box might help a bit, altho if you have to brake hard shes gonna nut you big time (not to mention what will happen to your nuts as she pile drives into the back of you…). 600f is better than a fireblade (if its a newish one) given the seat/peg angles and seat padding but like BigSV says its not exactly designed for distance cruising with two people on it
not to put a downer on what could be an awesome trip, but you sure you know what youre letting yourself in for?
Thanks for you comemnts Johnny, I am NOT sure i know what im getting into.
I have been taking her as a pillion since i passed the test (ok only on the scooter- but the idea that you have someone unstable on the back is the same correct?)
obviously i would not set of the trip the same day we get the bike (planning to buy begining July)… but wait acouple of months (thats why i said sept…)
also might be a good idea to do a trial longish ride to Brighton eg before?
haha ok cool. at least she’s used to being on a bike of sorts. you’ve more weight on your wrists tho
yeah, would do some trial runs. i enjoy having my girl on the back but i find it relatively more tiring even on only an hour or two’s riding. the r1 has her perched pretty high tho. thinking about doing some europe trips with her in the future but only when she has her own bike
Hmm… I’ve taken pillions on both a CBF (upright bike with a big topbox) and a ZX6 (forward-leaning, weight on wrists etc). The weight distribution is very different and so are the effects of it, in particular at slow speed. Be careful not to underestimate that!
Also, even with a topbox your pillion will still be leaning on you more on a sports bike than on a tourer and it’s still damned hot in Greece in Sept. - crap for concentration levels. Besides, you get a lot more luggage on a bike when you have an empty back seat
It’s a bugger Keti. I cut and paste individual words/letters from greek web pages. I find it very hard to understand greek written in latin characters.
We’re just not allowed to install anything on work machines - everything seems to be locked down. I don’t think the IT guys would agree to install the Greek font for me if I explain why I want it, either
I’ve got a CBF600S (faired). Having crashed it some weeks ago, it’s currently got no side fairing (and I took the screen off the other day to clean it). My advice? Go for the faired! It actually makes a big difference (as I found out today!)
Actually just test rided a faired from Chiswick Honda yesterday and must say really liked the fairing (compaired to the naked one i was on for 3 days during my DAS - ok it was a 500cc).
Just a side note… it seemed to heat up quite quick - wasnt in very heavy traffic - in like 20 mins. I asked about that and the Honda girl - said it is normal fro CBF600s to heat up quickly but they also cool down quick aswell… is this true?
ps. real sorry to hear about your crash… hope alls ok
