The unfortunate fact is that despite taking as many precautions as possible, ‘not putting yourself in a vulnerable position’ does not always keep you safe and there may be a time when you have to defend yourself.
Self defence is always a last resort, but a basic knowledge of what is effective may just be enough to make a difference.
Self Defence training under what ever guise is not the complete answer.
In my humble opinion made by dealing with violence and many many many victims of assaults and worse over the years, training and sparring in a gym is very very different when it all comes on top in real life.
All the training in the world will not prepare anyone for a violent situation when it happens for real … unless of course that person does it so often that it becomes muscle memory - many many thousands of times to achieve - and they can strike out without thinking.
Of course, this type of training keeps you fit and it will improve your confidence (but hopefully not so much that people think that something bad could never happen to them) so it can’t and will not be a bad thing.
Us humans are designed for two reactions, flight or fight … believe me, creating distance and flight is the better option.
Above all try and be aware of your situation, look and act confident.
