so the new shock that i got on has adjustable height and im thinking of raising the rear.
i know that this will put some more weight on the front but not 100% of the effect in handling,
if im correct it will make the bike turn quicker but not sure how it will effect front grip? i assume it will have more? as there is more weight on the front? but on the other hand it could load the tyre too much?
yeah it puts more weight on the front and the bike turns quicker. you may also lose some stability because the rake angle is affected by raising the rear.
Hornets pretty well balanced anyway but do some experimenting see how it feels…
I once sorted out the front end of a bike by fitting slightly uprated, progressive springs and going up one grade on the oil. Now the back end felt soggy.
Uprated the rear units (that’ll date things) and the front felt soggy again.
Re valved the front forks and the whole thing got far too lively.
Played with the pre load on the back and then changed the springs.
Now the front was too firm.
Changed the fork oil down to the original grade.
Need I go on? I gave up eventually, and a few hundred quids later, and learned to love the quick steering and the iffy rear end.
the part that connects to the swiingarm is actually adjustable - you can screw it ‘into’ the shock to make the rear shorter or unscrew it to raise the rear… you dont do anything to the springs…
