R6 Sussex Gardens W2

A mate got his bike stolen this afternoon around 3p.m from Talbot Square. A bystander saw two scooters with scum on it towing the bike on Harrow road westward (starting from Royal Oak) with alarms blaring.

It’s a black Yamaha R6 (pics below). Number plate DV10 HKX.

Any information welcome.

That sucks! I’ll keep eyes peeled I’d be searching the local area if the alarm was going probably dumped somewhere at the moment

Thanks, mate. We did drive around for a couple of hours through the streets around the area they were last seen, but no luck.

Scrotes cut the chain and the disc lock with the grinder in the middle of the day and rode off with the alarm going off, the fucking nerve…

seems they have worked out the flaw in even the best chain

Seems like they've worked out the flaw in the law - no one ever gets caught let alone punished! Thieves should have their hands removed with the same battery grinder they use.

I seem to remember seeing a kickstarter project for a grinder resistant bicycle lock - I think it worked in a similar way to chainsaw proof trousers with some kind of Kevlar fibres that tangled up the grinder wheel. I wonder if something similar could be incorporated into a decent motorbike chain - the easiest solution would be to make a sleeve out of the material but that's pretty easy to bypass by simply cutting outside the sleeved section so I guess it would have to be wound through the links somehow.

Either that or hollow chain links filled with napalm to give a nasty surprise when you get half way through…

Now that would be an idea. second it cuts through and sparks little localised bomb! The bike would take a hit as well, but I'd rather that than they get away with it.

What ever security that is designed a way around it will be found regardless .think back of impregnable security 20 years ago and how easy that is to bypass now ?

Which is why it has to keep changing to remain effective.

Which is why I'm going for the option of having nothing on there... That'll get them thinking that 'he must have amazing security, let's go elsewhere'

I would be interesting to see a grinder proof chain

I understand how chainsaw protection works but thinking about it a chainsaw blade is a sharp hook so the fibres are caught and blockup the chain & sprocket

an angle grinder works by friction & has a reltivaly smooth blade so how would the blade pick up the fibres & clog the spindle

maybe that’s why it didn’t take off

Yeah I was a bit dubious - I think there’s a video somewhere, I’ll try and dig it out later.

The fibres would probably get snagged on the disc but I can’t see how they’d clog up the spindle unless there were loads of them, maybe they’re coated in something, or maybe it just doesn’t really work.

Napalm it is then…

A grinder can be slowed /stopped by cutting a plastic /resin based product by the build up of the “grinds” clumping …BUT easy way round is to … remove the guards and face it anyone happy to be actively grinding a chain of a bike in broad daylight ain’t worried about health and safety

Well, at least they’d stand a chance of getting a face full of molten plastic, which is a step in the right direction…

a step, but a small step

They should create some sort of chain or lock that explodes with some sort of ink on the thief’s face, with a colour that the police can quickly identify. Same thing they did with alarms and clothes.

I don't think any company would make that for fear of injuring someone by accident. Ink to the face could cause blindness...

Even an unsuspecting mechanic changing your chain?
