Quick Insurance ( impounded bike )

My brother had his scooter collected by van from our house for a service etc, after the service the mechanic who decides to take the bike round the block to check brakes etc and all gets stopped and bike taken off him… that it self is another issue…

He wasn’t yet insured on the bike as he only just wanted to ride it work for purposes. Now the fudge won’t release it from the pound without some special insurance stating that pound release is allowed. ?!?!

Perhaps someone’s had a similar case to which my question is which insurance company did you use ?

Bikesure say they would throw in a IN40 or some crap charge ( allowing someone without insurance to ride your bike ) which he didn’t. … Which in future affects his premium… Hence the spot of trouble.

Anyone else got out a similar situation in one piece ? The garage will be covering costs of insurance so it’s really more a case of which insurance company.

I been on the phone all day as my brother is a sausage when it comes to these things.

Thank you in advance

If you go in a van with some who has trade insurance that should be sufficient also tote you will need steel toe caps hi vis and ID also and some other paperwork also that escapes me they fuckers to deal with at the pound rather keep ya bike then releases as earn that a fortune
Conrad who use to be on here had his A1P inpounded and I believe it ended up getting crushed as every time he went there they wanted put some other hoop for him to jump in threw

Slim chance of any traders policy working as there used to be traders parked outside just charging people few hundred quid for taking cars out… They made it strict long time ago and I once had the pleasure of having my car stuck in there… Needing to make 5 trips like you mentioned cause every time they wanted something else… letter from my mum, note from the doctor, signed picture from jesus. Blood sample from my unborn child…

Got the scooter in the end, troubling thing was the guy said " you need to tell the insurance your bike is in the pound and we’ll phone to confirm ".

Lot of companies state on their policy now not for removal of cars from pound. As people getting getting insurance taking their cars etc out and cancelling. Got a cheap enough quote with zenith so win win in the end.

Thank for your reply.

Yep, remember when the pound had my bike and was talking to a bloke who was losing his car.   He explained that the insurers, fed up with people not driving insured and then getting them insured to get them out of the pound, decided to change the small print - such that their insurance will not start from a pound.

So the bloke couldn’t get his car out - even if he now insured it.

Have no idea if there are insurers out there that do offer insurance from the pound.   Turning up with a van makes sfa difference.   It must be insured or they wont let it go.   They are inflexible and wont budge.

Whoever serviced the bike should have had their own policy to cover road tests and the like. If they didn’t they need to be named and shamed. Also, any bike stolen whilst in their “care” would probably not be paid out on either if they don’t have the trade cover for vehicles in their care.
